What does the American West feel like today?
For decades, our collective imagination has been locked in the myths of static, untouched frontiers. But a radical shift is happening under the surface.
In the new Bozeman Summer 2026 issue of Western Home Journal, writer Michele Corriel takes you inside Visions West Contemporary @visionswestcontemporary—
a gallery that is successfully pivoting the conversation from what the West looks like to how the West feels in an age of ecological uncertainty.
Discover groundbreaking artists who are challenging old stereotypes and rewriting the region's narrative:
-Tracy Stuckey's vivid capture of the wild west depicts a stylized, retro-modern style. @tracystuckey
-Jess Kellner's dreamlike, cinematic watercolors that capture the raw tension of rodeo riders and wild animals. @jesskellner
-Beau Carey’s splintered, mirrored mountain portraits that reject traditional landscapes to reveal a rapidly shifting modern wilderness. @beaucarey
-Rachel Denny’s incredible polyurethane animal sculptures wrapped in soft, domestic cable-knit cashmere to subvert the hyper-masculine hunting trophy. @racheldennyart

Link in our bio to read "Beyond the Mythic West" and explore the future of contemporary naturalism.

A delicate medium meets an untamed subject.

In Hard To Get To Know, Jess Kellner demonstrates the expressive potential of watercolor through a subject more often associated with force than fragility. Loose washes and fluid edges allow the horse and rider to emerge gradually, capturing the energy of the ride without relying on rigid detail. The composition feels alive, balancing moments of precision with areas that remain intentionally open.

Rather than freezing a dramatic instant, Kellner embraces the fleeting nature of movement. The luminous yellow ground creates an unexpected sense of space, while layered washes of warm earth tones suggest motion, weight, and rhythm. His ability to communicate so much with so little is what makes these works so compelling. Every brushstroke feels purposeful, inviting the viewer to slow down and discover something new with each look.

ALLGORITHIM brings a twelve-artist group booth to Artsy's Foundations 2026, gathering painting, photography, and mixed media under a shared instinct for looking closely at memory, identity, and the instability of the present moment. The presentation extends the curatorial logic first drawn together in the gallery's Layered exhibition — that meaning accumulates, that identity forms through sediment — into a fair context built for discovery.

The roster spans a wide range of practice: Zoë Renait's oil paintings of leisure and quiet ceremony, Vincent Lantzy's color-driven portraits examining desire and cultural memory, and Conner Meager's collage-built portraiture rooted in graphic design. Piper Olivas constructs layered visual situations from film photography printed on fabric and silk; Adam Brierley works outward from material residue; Dylan Anthony Roworth merges the mythos of the American West with personal narrative through his recurring cowboy figure. Katarina Holbrough's surreal figures emerge from phthalo green grounds, Preston Douglas Boyer extends his Testimony and zipper-painting bodies of work, Austin Santangelo's film photography favors quiet, lived-in moments, and Jess Kellner's cinematic paintings explore surrender and control. Gaëtan Henrioux and Ethan Schlessinger round out the booth with new work.

Together, the artists reflect ALLGORITHIM's ongoing commitment to platforming distinctive voices at every stage of their careers.

In A Special Bond, multi-disciplinary artist Jess Kellner subverts the typically high-octane, hyper-masculine iconography of the American West, exchanging adrenaline for a poignant, dreamlike introspection. Using a delicate watercolor-on-paper medium, Kellner distills the chaotic fury of a bucking bronco into a fluid, lyrical choreography between human and beast.
The true brilliance of A Special Bond lies in its title and composition. There are no spurs digging in, no taut reins, and no frantic crowd. The rider’s arm is raised not just for balance, but in a gesture that feels deeply vulnerable, almost spiritual, reaching upward into the negative space of the cream background.

By isolating the pair against a minimalist, warm-toned vacuum, Kellner strips away the spectacle of the sport. We are left to contemplate a brief, gravity-defying moment where human resilience and animal wildness meld into a singular entity. It is a masterful, tender reimagining of Western lore that finds quiet poetry within the heart of an upheaval.
