Really enjoyed Aftermath at @oldparcelsofficeartspace last Saturday! A really well thought out and curated exhibition in a space I have always wanted to exhibit in. I loved meeting the other artists taking part. Some really interesting and inspirational conversations and work on display.

On until the 31st May - if you're anywhere near Scarborough, I highly recommend a visit.

Aftermath is an exhibition of paintings, printmaking, photographs and sculpture by mainly northern artists whose inspiration is fired by the places and people in areas affected by the post industrial decline caused by the closure of several traditional industries or in some images by the devastation caused by war.

The show also includes some more optimistic pieces with some of the 3D work utilising “industrial“ type materials. The catalogue accompanying the show includes archive images that set the context and circumstances that underpinned the closure of many workplaces.

The thirteen artists chosen for this exhibition have all been touched or directly affected by people and places that have experienced massive change.

The artists are Phil Whiting, Jemma Gunning, Paul Armstrong, Narbi Price, Cath Brooke, Ian MacDonald, Ian Glover, Glen Ogden, Sandy Layton, Matt Matchouki, Stephen Carley, Gordon Dalton and Jess Kidd whose professionalism and
diverse practice has made this show so powerful.

The show has been organised, curated and hung by Rob Moore from The Old Parcels Office with the support of volunteers and Kane Cunningham a director of Big Ideas By The Sea.

I love quiet mornings in the therapy room. A chance to pause, reflect, consider the day and lucky us we get to enjoy Jess's work. It's change over day today, I'm excited to see what she's bringing us. by @jesskiddart

Was a joy to install my work at @dialogueslife_ yesterday, and I am very excited for this new avenue.

I have always been a fan of art in everyday life. Finding ways where art might reach people other than a pristine gallery space.

And as many of you might know, mental health is very important to me and something I have explored through my practice. So when Jo from @dialogueslife_ asked me to display some work in their therapy space, I was thrilled to get involved.

A few before and afters of our kitchen renovation!

We really loved working with Jake from @coates_carpentry
alongside Jack from @jhelectricall

Originally we thought we could just bob a few new doors on the existing units (what were we thinking!) and give the walls a lick of paint, but when we realised the whole thing was rotten to the core, Jake made what could have been very daunting, stress free and fun! As our plans developed we realised just how important and special this room would be. The heart of the home, this project has really made our new home feel like our own.

The photos don't do it justice. Jake has beautifully crafted and designed each unit with birch ply, including a full new window surround. He was a dream to work with, listening to what we wanted, checking we were all on the same page and was so easy to talk to. This whole house is a mish mash of wonky floors, walls, ceilings and windows. I love it but I literally don't know how he created something so crisp and clean with all those different angles!

Well after 6 months of traveling we've had time to totally reassess our life and what's important to us. So I'm now in the middle of the slightly daunting process of packing my studio up!

We're not moving far but it will be a complete change. Living in a van taught us we don't need a lot to be happy. So we are getting rid of all our clutter. Our aim is less stuff, more time!
My studio will be a LOT smaller and I feel so lucky to have had this space with its tall ceilings and natural light. But I'm looking forward to a challenge and change of focus.

Found this piece yesterday. I think it was a preliminary piece for View from Yorkshire Bumps 😁 so it must be quite a few years old now. Yet it's probably the first thing I've seen in ages that's made me want to actually paint!

Looking forward to the Bradford Art Show at Loading Bay in December. You'll be able to see my piece, Worth Way to Park Lane alongside the work of 104 amazing artists, all with a connection to Bradford.

The Bradford Art Show is part of a new exciting visual arts festival called Our Turn. It will run from 6th to 21st Dec.

Our Turn is designed and led by artists and delivered by @southsquarecentre in collaboration with @bradford_2025 , @yorkshirecontemporary and @bdproducinghub .

I'm looking forward to meeting up with fellow artists and sharing all that we've experienced over the 2025 City of Culture.

The festival is commissioned by @bradford_2025 and supported by @aceagrams and @yvanetwork

Meant to share this last week when it came out, but was a little distracted getting ready to go travelling.

Thank you to the lovely Andrew Liddle who I really enjoyed talking to @telegraph_argus_bradford

I'll attach a link in my bio to the online article in case anyone wants a read.

We're heading off on another adventure, exploring places, researching how we feel, but mostly just letting go.

Feel so happy to have my work hung in @houseofblid
Not only is this a beautiful house, but people who know me well will know how much it means to me to be hung next to my grandma's old chair! She used to sit in this and look out at the birds in the garden. Now @krasnayazvezda sits and looks out at the birds in her garden!
Thank you @houseofblid and stunning framing by @emmawilsonx too!

I looked down and realised I was scraping layers of paint, off an old kitchen top, with an old cheese slice, and putting it into a mushy pea container from the fish and chip shop... Just in case I might want to use them later 😆
