little jessica would be SO proud of this one 🥹🩵

i’ve dreamt of working with animals for as long as i can remember. i spent my whole life dragging mum to every aquarium, animal sanctuary and wildlife park i could find. i would beg to go to mentone aquarium (our local) and that obsession somehow followed me into adulthood, eventually convincing my boyfriend that our days off should also include a trip to the aquarium because being surrounded by animals has always brought me so much joy, peace and excitement AND NOW…i get to bloody work in one!!

it’s hard work, it’s challenging and some days definitely push me out of my comfort zone but i genuinely love it! i still have moments where i look around and think how is this actually my job?

and yesss, that last photo is little jess YEARS ago unknowingly manifesting her future job 🪸

a moment i’ve been chasing for over 12 months now and today the ocean decided to make up for the wait! i finally got my manta swim 😭

not one, not two but we counted eight mantas surrounding the boat! all gathered for a coral spawn feeding event, giving me swim after swim after swim, each one somehow better than the last

10 swims in (i think), completely overwhelmed and thinking the day couldn’t possibly get any better until we spotted one more, the biggest and darkest manta of the day…

of course i had to jump back in and as i ducked underneath her, i realised i wasn’t looking at just any manta but a melanistic one 🖤 a rare genetic variation that gives them that incredible all black colouring and something that has been sitting on my ocean bingo card foreverrrrr

a lifelong dream that seriously couldn’t have played out any better (and the countless jelly stings were well worth it 🪼)!

july, you were lovely 🌼 a month made up of…

- bullara sleepovers under the stars
- mulla mulla blooming back into the landscape
- arvo wildflower walks
- lava showers
- humpys back in the gulf 🐋
- the little car that could (freida is officially on the road)
- sunset bday sails for the boy
- near impossible to get seats at the table
- veggie garden growth that makes me way too happy 🥹
- coral bay glassssss
- work days that don’t really feel like work
- homemade fish and chippies down by the water
- just samuel, because i love him 🤎

still pinching myself that this is my job now 🩵

this moment has been a longggg time coming! open water to advanced to rescue diver to commercial dive medical to countless hours of online learning…all leading to my very first aquarium tank dive!

the first attempt didn’t quite go to plan - i ended up in hospital with costochondritis. it was frustrating to have worked so hard and then be forced to hit pause butttt today? we got it done. first tank dive complete and i couldn’t wipe the smile off my face!
