Yesterday I lost my best friend of almost 16 years.

We took you for your final ‘walk’ around your favourite park so you could feel the wind in your ears for the last time.

Marlie you have been the best companion one could ever ask for. You were more than a gift… more than a first dog, you were one of the family from the very beginning. You were the missing puzzle piece we never knew we needed, often the glue that would bind us all together - making love not war. I could’ve never imagined all life stages that you’d bear witness to: almost two decades of birthdays, christmases, proms, holidays, funerals, STATs, GCSEs, A-Levels and degrees, halloweens, breakups, promotions, parties and wins of all kinds. You even made the mundane better in every way just by being there - happy to be involved no matter how minor the task.

Even after years of me living away on the other side of the world, you were always still there, waiting patiently for me to come home.

It’s crazy to think that I’ve known you more of my life than not, and you not being here makes no sense in my heart. You’ve always been there - giving nothing but unconditional love without needing to say a word, ever since I was a 10 year old girl.

You were never a pain. You never misbehaved, you never ate any belongings or homework. You never harmed another soul and never shyed away from all of our affection. You were perfect in every way, and you were so so incredibly loved.

Home just isn’t the same without you, and there is a small dog shaped hole in all of our hearts.

We used to joke that you weren’t ever allowed to die on us, and at times it genuinely felt like you were invincible. But unfortunately time is wicked and it finally caught up to you old girl. Thank you for 16 incredible years. It’s been an honour, and I would take this heartache a thousand times over just for another chance at life again with you.

Give all our passed loved ones a good lick when u see them🤍. I know grandad is waiting for you with some ham.
