Maybe I wasn’t lost in New York after all. Maybe I was just finding my way here.

I took this video flying into New York earlier this summer, and looking out at that skyline, I couldn’t help but tear up. This city has so much energy. It’s still such a pinch-me moment that I actually live here. That this is home.

Years ago, long before I ever knew I’d end up here, I wrote a song called “Lost in New York.” I was writing about a city I hadn’t lived in yet, somehow putting feelings into words that mean so much more to me now than I ever could have understood then.

And it makes this song even more special singing harmonies and background vocals while one of my best friends from Nashville, @daniellamason , sings the lead.

Sometimes you write something before you know the rest of the story.

This past year hasn’t been the easiest. There have been hard days, moments of doubt, and times when things didn’t come back the way I gave them. But through it all, I’ve always chosen to be happy. I smile. Not because life is perfect, but because I believe in staying positive even when it’s hard.

I try to treat people with kindness. I try to be a good friend. I cheer for the people I love and want the very best for them. Sometimes I give more than I get back, and that can sting. But at the end of the day, I know I showed up with a good heart.

38 is a weird number, nothing exciting, not anything flashy, but turning 38 feels different. It feels like a shift. A reminder that this life is fast, it’s okay to pour some of that same love, energy, and care back into myself. Not in a selfish way, but in the way that’s necessary… the way that’s deserved.

Here’s to growth, protecting my peace, career wins, deeper friendships, falling in love, traveling, and staying close to the people I love most… and maybe most importantly, stepping into a year where I give myself the same grace I give to everyone else. taken in New York, New York by @jestoncade

Week one.
- Story behind the pic. I walked into @dearfriendbooks and quickly made convo. Picked up a few items… (we all know I love a black leather jacket. So why not find the coffee table book of my dreams.) As I was leaving, I think his name was Chris, who worked there wanted to take my picture for store year book. He commented on my style and my coat, and how it all had the same vibe. He told me to come back and sign it… and I’m just gonna have to do that. Thanks Chris, for making my week. Feeling a tad displaced, but small convo goes along way.
