On Tuesday 6th of October at 11:00pm, I’ll be setting off on a 50km walk around Wollongong, alongside my little toko. We’ll be walking through the night, aiming to finish at approximately 8:00am Wednesday morning.

We’ll be starting at Stuart’s Park, North Wollongong, walking 25km out before turning around and making the 25km journey back to where we started.

I’m doing this in honour of Suicide Prevention Month.

Not for attention. Not for a challenge. But because behind every statistic is a person, a family, a mate, a brother, a sister, a son or a daughter. On average we lose 9 lives per day to suicide which totals up to 63 lives a week.

Mental health can be a battle that people fight silently. Sometimes the person who looks the strongest on the outside is fighting the hardest battles on the inside.

I want this walk to be a reminder that you don’t have to carry it alone. Talk. Check in on your mates. Ask the question. Listen without judgement.

I’m proud to be doing this alongside my little toko, and grateful to be teaming up with @talk2mebro_au to help spread the message that starting a conversation can save a life.

If you see us walking through the night, stop and say hello. Walk a little bit with us. Ask us why we’re doing it. Most importantly — start the conversation.

50km. One night. One purpose. 🖤

Just a 20 & 17 year old looking to make a small difference.

If you’re struggling, please reach out. You are never a burden, and you are never alone. by @jhalangahu
