Desolation

Desolated sites shot on the iPhone 14
20x30 inch

For this series I wanted to explore how urban decay impacts the structural, sociocultural, and economic infrastructure within black and brown geographies. This series is both an essay, poem, and selected shots I took on camera. As described in the post I wanted to explore this relationship of vacancy and occupancy and the ultimate loss of opportunity that is faced when urban decay ruptures a city. It honestly saddens me on how most of the city has fallen to this decay, what I kept on thinking about while working on this project was what I captured on my phone, but the countless sites I didn’t it felt as thou every time I turned a corner there was a an abandoned site. Ultimately within this project I wanted to reimagine and remember these spaces that are now desolate.

Commerce of war
36x24 in
Collage

What is killed to be made, animals are killed to become sustenances, plants and trees are killed to be made lumber, black bodies in the Congo are killed to create teslas and iPhone and mostly any other tech product that uses cobalt. As I type on a iPhone myself, I myself am complacent to this commerce. I wanted to explore the flesh that goes into our consumption. In the silhouette of a Tesla cyber truck, I wanted to use something that in its own self is grotesque, as a reflection of capitalism. Once again no nation should go through such tragedy, and ultimately should not be ignored for such. Free Congo, free Sudan, and free Palestine. by @jhediiiii
