At the conclusion of Pride Month I'd like to share one more look back at dear Scott in @opera_parallele's Harvey Milk Reimagined!

I really miss running around San Francisco pretending to be Harvey Milk's boyfriend. Being Scott Smith in front of new friends and family really shook something loose in me. I hold myself differently in my every day life because of this person who died the year before I was born.

Recognizing your queer lineage is a spiritual practice. There is no bloodline. Nobody teaches you early on how to be gay. The name of the game in my mind continues to be harnessing our collective past, present, and future dreams in order to give joy to the environment I find myself in with my loved ones.

This time around, this practice earned me recognition from City Hall in a town I was in for only a few weeks. Who knows what comes from continuing this into the future?!?!?

Harvey Milk Reimagined is officially ON STAGE in San Francisco!! 😍

This isn’t your average night at the opera—it’s a boundary-pushing production that blends powerful visuals, a newly reimagined score, and a story that still resonates today. From the moment the curtain rises, you’ll be swept into a vibrant world of activism, courage, and hope.

Presented by @opera_parallele—San Francisco’s leader in contemporary, socially driven opera—this show is the perfect kickoff to Pride Month and a moving celebration of what would have been Harvey Milk’s 95th birthday.

🎟️ Ready for it? Tickets start at just $50, and if you’re under 35, you can score a seat for only $35 (Price 5 only)!

I'm from Marinette, WI!

I get misty thinking about last Thursday! What does it mean to exist in a world where every single cause for human rights that has gained small ground during my lifetime is being quickly lost? It's in this environment where we are putting on an opera that tells the story of Harvey Milk, a gay man from a town you've never heard of who found himself in the Castro and insisted to the powers that be that this could be a place you could you can find community, love, pleasure, and MORE!

I still have a hard time accepting Harvey's assassination. This is a similar feeling to accepting that the same forces that allowed that to happen are experiencing a surge of power that will be very difficult to push back against.

However, on his 95th Birthday, a gay boy from a town you've never heard of in Wisconsin got to march down the streets of San Francisco behind a marching band blaring Lady Gaga and it felt absolutely incredible. I'm happy to be included in a long line of queer people who get to come here and feel like this. This is what we fight for! We are all the loves of each other's lives!

Thank you @opera_parallele for giving me the opportunity to come to San Francisco to portray gay love in all of its glorious splendor.

Career update!

It feels great to say after a lot of hard work that I have a newfound balance in my life that has allowed me to pursue this career with a new degree of self understanding and calm.

With that I'd love to share some exciting things I have coming up:

1. A homegrown Carmen with the @kentuckysymphony.
2. A trip to San Fransisco to sing Scott Smith, a gay activist and the city supervisor's lover, in a new version of Harvey Milk with @opera_parallele.
3. Returning home to Cincinnati to make my solo Music Hall debut as Fyedka in a new production of Fiddler on the Roof with our near and dear @cincinnatiopera.

It's an incredible responsibility to get to tell the stories of the tremendous gains and tragedies of the American Queer Liberation movement of the 20th century through the rise and assassination of Harvey Milk, as well as the clash of cultures and expulsion from ancestral lands by a tyrannical government in imperial Russia.

I'm looking forward to sharing more with you all in the coming months!
