The Dude abides. A sketch I did about a year ago of our favorite El Duderino. The Big Lebowski is probably one of my favorite Coen brothers movies. That or Fargo. Perhaps an idea for an upcoming sketch! I’m curious to know what your favorite lines or scenes are.

Weird guy I saw in my nightmare last night. I sketched his face while sharing my dream with my waifu. He was standing behind me while I was working at my computer. He had on a white hat, white jacket, darker complexion (like Indian) and intense expression, as though he was angry and anxious. Then suddenly a chubby man wearing a black cap and puffer jacket walked up behind him with his gun drawn and chased the weird guy away. Later in the dream, it turned out the guy in white was on a stabbing spree. I haven’t had a nightmare in a long time. I don’t feel affected by it or anything, but it reminded me to be spiritually and mentally vigilant, and to trust that God has me in his hands. I had a short but great time of prayer earlier. I poured out my heart with much tears, then I felt the Holy Spirit embrace me. Jesus loves you so much.

The Terminator has just arrived. Inspired by a good friend of mine whose favorite is the first film, while mine is T2. Through many episodes of exaggerated imitations of Arnold to deeper conversations about the films, I’ve come to appreciate the first film again. No matter what, we both agree that no one can replace the T-800.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.

What started out as a looser sketch ended up with me continuing to build upon it with more line work and values. If I could go “back in time,” I’d do some cleaner line work and maybe draw Marty or Doc Brown’s arm in there. Or maybe Einie looking out the side. Who knows. All I know is that I missed doing movie fan art and there’ll be more to come… in the future…

This verse has been reverberating in my conscious the last couple weeks:
But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
Romans 8:10-11
The previous chapter speaks a lot about how our minds are made holy but our flesh is weak and dead due to sin. But Christ is also able to bring life to our flesh, rendering sin weaker, and we may be less influenced by it as we grow.

“Not only that, but we rejoice in our suffering, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5:3-5

Ever go through a tough time in your life and wonder why it’s happening? Chances are, there are some very deep and profound lessons we can learn in those times. Hard times shift and mold us, and with the understanding that suffering builds endurance, character, and hope, we might eventually find ourselves high-fiving and fist bumping each other when the storms come and go, which they will.

NYC subway in the 80s sketch. I think this will be my last for a short time. After looking at a lot of other art accounts, I’ve realized I’m only posting my messier, looser practice stuff. I guess everything is kind of practice if you think about it. At work I’m always doing more dialed-in stuff that’s cleaner and a bit more finished to be presented to clients in the film industry. On my free time I like to doodle more and do looser stuff. I’ll try to post more of the cleaner stuff in my upcoming posts.

How many people in the NY subway system can I draw? The world may never know. Nevermind that Souls of Mischief, the guys who rapped this song are from Oakland, CA. The point is that puffer jackets are fun to draw. What?

Opposite hand sketch of a New Yorker, knocked out on a subway ca.1939. I really enjoy doing these opposite hand drawings. They help me pull back and pay attention to the shapes rather than details, and it makes me focus more rather than rely on muscle memory. It can really stretch and grow you as an artist.
