Black belt ❤️🖤

Today was truly surreal.
A culmination of almost 13 years as a Jiu Jitsu practitioner.

I am so grateful that I got to share this moment with Everett, who has been in the gym watching me train and teach his whole life.

The two hardest, and most rewarding, things I have done in my life are Jiu Jitsu and being a mom.

Both have saved me.
Transformed me.
And provided endless lessons about perseverance and relentlessly pursuing what you love.

I hope one day Everett looks back and realizes all that this black belt means.

To my @ntxmma family, I cannot describe how grateful I am. To be somewhere with people that genuinely love and support you is life changing. The cheers, tears and hype for this special moment in my life meant so much.

@virgil.allen2 thank you so much for everything.
Our shared love, lineage and appreciation for @octaviocoutobjj made this was a sweet, full circle moment in my jiu jitsu career.

@jordan_the3rd getting me to come to NTX was one of the best decisions of my life and I’m so grateful for it!

@txgrappler71 thank you for all that you guys have done to support me, from giving me a coaching home to encouraging and helping with the @theempowermentproject.co - my life has changed for the better since coming to NTX.

I have come so far and I have much to learn.
I’m so excited and grateful for this next chapter.

August dump 🎢✏️⚾️

Hard to believe that in August:
I cut 8 inches off my hair
Went to DisneyLand
Everett fell in love with roller coasters
Held a super successful boxing event 🥊
Everett started first grade 🍎
And a new baseball team ⚾️
He finished his summer reading challenge 📚
And flew on a plane for the first time ✈️
I joined the PTO 😜
Got to enjoy my Saturdays off for the first time in years
Did more crafting than what feels humanly possible
(Disney shirts, back to school morning, DIY lunch box and water bottle, event bags, shirts and decorations, baseball goodies, teacher gifts 😮‍💨)
And decided to try dressing like a grown up occasionally

Seeing over a decade of work and patience come to fruition in real time and I’m so unbelievably grateful.

It’s been 3 years since he passed and I still kick myself every day for telling him “next time” when he had his last seminar here.

If you knew Octavio, you know how rare of a coach he was.

His style of Jiu Jitsu was genuinely so far ahead of its time and that style is what I mirror mine after to this day.

His teaching and mentorship is the reason i got back on the mats as a white belt and why I stayed on the mats even when it was hard (and my life fell apart in 2020.)

The environment he created was hands down the best I’ve ever experienced- especially for women- and I strive every day to bring my students the same level of kindness and encouragement that he did.
No favoritism. No drama on the mats.
Just the love of Jiu Jitsu.

Earning my blue and purple belts from a Jiu Jitsu legend was genuinely such an honor.

I’m so glad I am privileged enough to know what “palm hands face to you” means and that I got to learn from a truly great human.

🥊 BOX LIKE A GIRL. 🥊

What an incredible day at NTX MMA.

We were honored to host The Empowerment Project’s BOX LIKE A GIRL Seminar — a FREE event for the Anna community built around something much bigger than boxing.

Confidence. Strength. Awareness. Community. Empowerment.

The Empowerment Project is a passion project developed by NTX MMA Coach Michelle Trent, and seeing women and girls from our community step onto the mats, learn new skills, push themselves, and support one another is exactly why this program exists.

And there is an even bigger purpose behind it.

100% of proceeds raised through The Empowerment Project go to support the mission of RAINN — the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization.

We are incredibly grateful to Coach Michelle for pouring her time, experience, and heart into this project, and to every woman and young lady who showed up and trusted us enough to be part of it.

This is only the beginning.

Our goal is to bring programs like this to the Anna community quarterly — creating more opportunities for women and girls to train, learn, build confidence, and discover just how strong they really are.

I started dreaming up the Empowerment Project almost a decade ago.

A martial arts space for women and girls. By women.

16 years as a fitness professional and group instructor. 13 years as a martial artist. 11 years as a coach.

I spent a long time waiting to feel “ready.” Now, I just wish I had created this space sooner.

But we’re here. And we’re just getting started. 🩷
