Old news now but doing it for the grid - Harry House by Altereco and photographed by me got the honourable mention in the residential photography category at @indesignlive INDE 2024 awards!!
We’re sitting on this quite impatiently until publication next year!
@alterecodesign basically designed and built a house in order to get a full day dog shoot out of me, a bit crazy if you ask me but whatever blows your hair back!
🐶 @the_realprinceharry was so stoked he did an extra poo that day I’m told!

I’m proud to be a founding member of the newest (and definitely best) photography association around @imagemakersassociation
Starting tomorrow I’m doing an insta takeover of their account - please join me for some photos and thoughts peppered with bad jokes and an undertone of anxiety and imposter syndrome 😉

I’m sharing a little more about my process of putting an exhibition together, both in the shooting stage and the editing stage.

Once a body of work is shot and processed, it takes me a couple of months to land on which images will stay in the collection and which will be stored for different use.

In my studio, I process all the images, (days and months of shoots) and start selecting some for test printing. I arrange walls of prints, gathered together by location, colour or pattern. I note which images compliment each other or tell a story together and will try them in groups.

I think about the relevance of the image to the concept and slowly come to the final decisions of what to include. Then I start test printing on selected papers, checking colours, paper surfaces and image quality.

At the same time I’m thinking about titles for the works and a title for the exhibition. There is so much to think about to pull together a cohesive collection of images.

Is there any part of the process you’re interested in me talking more about? Let me know in the comments if so!

My next exhibition PATTERN~ity opens at Lon Retreat on 11 September. PATTERN~ity is a collection of contemplative aerial landscapes, capturing the effects of water on the landscape over time. I’ve captured rivers, lakes and waterways in our region, coloured beautiful patterns that look like artworks from above. I can’t wait to share more with you soon…

Thank you @jjjjade for the videos capturing me at work, both in the landscape and in the studio. xx by @jjjjade

Winner of the most colourful house I’ve photographed ever! It was lovely to spend the afternoon shooting the lovely home of Marg and Andy - prioritising space for music, their productive garden overlooking the Merri creek and COLOUR. Super team on this one -

Driving around the US I’m always fascinated by the average suburban house and its variations through different states and cities. These photos come from an hour spent wandering in a little pocket of South Bend, Indiana. An *almost* gated community - there’s rules around what can be displayed (US flags always allowed, political signage not so much), the residents will come and say hello to find out why you’re roaming around as an unfamiliar face. The monotony of housing is like a visual meditation, and the green so different to an Australian green under our harsh sun. by @jjjjade

El Mercado de Tepoztlan - a vibrant hub in the middle of this small magical town (one of many assigned Pueblos Magicos in Mexico). Designed by @rsa_mx and @laboratoriodearquitectura . Terracotta tiles, brick and steel, multi-level, and large open walkways and stairs. We stocked up on freshly made tortillas, produce and some local market bags. taken in Tepoztlán Pueblo Mágico by @jjjjade

Photographing homes really satisfies the nosey Nellie in me - I always want to see other people’s inner worlds, where do they like to sit, what do they do here, where’s the good afternoon light fall. So it’s always nice when a home owner really invites you in and makes photos with you! Paul + Tash, and their two daughters were great co-creators in these images of @dn.archi ‘s Atria House. @gerardommmontero is wandering around Mexico City eating quesadillas whilst I’m at home in Melbourne sick with a cold, watching rain out my window. But this time last year we were wandering around Coyoacán together and I still haven’t gone through all the photos I took whilst we were there!
So please enjoy this little spread of pictures from Coyoacán, Mexico City. The first is the Organillero (organ grinder) that’s a fixture in the main park, he’s still there and @gerardommmontero took a video of him today, he looks equally unimpressed. The organ has a unique sound and it’s reportedly a dying art, the organs are expensive to fix and it’s harder to make a living playing one. It adds so much vibrancy to the already bustling park life in Mexico, I hope it sticks around a little longer. taken in Coyoacan by @jjjjade
