If I could only pull one dog this would be the one. Last week I was @sdhumanesociety and saw her. Immediately she presented her belly and wanted scratches all over. I spent several minutes with her and promised I’d be back. Today I got her out in the yard and she’s absolutely perfect - for someone that already knows the breed and is willing to put in the work. She came in recently as a stray with another Mal, and they didn’t get along well. She has zero boundaries with other dogs and had barrier aggression. Nothing could distract her from another dog nearby. She appeared to have no structure or training. All that changed working her for just half an hour. She and I went through various steps to satiate her drive, engage her focus and relieve her frustrations in the yard. She played in the water, did leash work and ran around like a wild little child, fully enjoying her time with us. She loved both of the staff from the rescue team, and engaged all of us with friendly social interactions. She handled well and loved the freedom to run. But she needs work. If she’s adopted by someone unwilling to work her daily, she’ll be returned immediately. If she finds a home interested in flyball, dock diving, frisbee or something fun for her, and she gets training for her lack of boundaries and structure, she’ll be a great Mal forever.
