I am very thrilled to be able now to share these images of my ceramic objects commissioned and bought for the sets for the film 'Wuthering Heights', directed by Emerald Fennell. They appear in Cathy's room and the main parlour in the Gothic Wuthering Heights house. Thanks very much to set dresser Charlotte Dirickx for this wonderful opportunity and the photos 📸 🖤🖤🖤 Big up to @emerald_fennell1 for commissioning women artists for the film! 💪🏼
Images...1/ Knapped porcelain axe head on Cathy's bed. 2/ Mirrored amulet and hanging doll shadow. 3/ Axe head on the window sill 4/ Amulet in a candlelit niche 5/ Stoneware sculpture high up on the wall with the death painting in the parlour at the Heights 6 - 8 studio images of some of the pieces.

Thanks Vasi Hirdo @ceramicsnow for the interview! Follow the link here to see it and interviews with all the exhibiting artists.
https://www.ceramicsnow.org/articles/the-whole-world-in-our-hands-at-the-stephen-lawrence-gallery/

Here's a snippet:
Q 'What message or feeling do you hope viewers take away when experiencing your work in the context of Earth Overshoot Day?'

A 'I read, watch and listen to everything I can about early humans, and particularly, early hominin species. The only surviving hominids today, though not necessarily the most successful, are Homo Sapiens – us – due to a creative revelation within our brains and bodies as a consequence of ancient climate change and human nomadism. In other words, our extraordinary creativity and adaptability are something that has got us into the current mess! Donna Haraway’s term (and title of her book) is ‘staying with the trouble’. For me, this suggests persistence and curiosity about the living world. It’s also about adapting materials and technologies in both a new and old way to protect the world and the survival of life in it. It is also, over everything else, about cultivating and practising tenderness for the world.'

The Whole World In Our Hands @uoggalleries is open for one more week. Last day next Saturday.

A pot and tools that I have added pieces into and re-glazed and re-fired. Refiring at a high temperature feels risky but when there's nothing to lose it's exciting! Two views of it on a ceramic shelf. 45 h x 14 w cm

🥂📣 Next Up @jmillarstudio 📣 Come join the conversation & get to know this artists intriguing practice - Jane Millar makes hand-built clay and ceramic sculptures that explore speculative futures and the relationship between human and more-than-human environments.

Drawing on research into early humans, material culture and environmental change, her works combine familiar yet strangely repurposed forms — tools, hooks, bricks, bulbs, moons, brushes and vessels — creating objects whose purpose feels uncertain, practical, ritual or perhaps magical.

Millar thinks of these works as a kind of future archaeology: objects from a place-in-progress, where there are no instructions and meanings remain open. For her, imagining futures and making new realities becomes a creative strategy for hope and survival.

Jane Millar joins us Thursday 3 September at 7pm for One Artist | One Work | One Conversation. #JaneMillar #OneArtistOneWork #ContemporaryCeramics #FutureArchaeology #unit1galleryworkshop taken in Unit 1 Gallery Workshop by @jmillarstudio
