Jane Millar (RCA) is a London based artist, making wall-based sculptures with ceramics and scrap, and often installed with wall paintings. Her works act as a repurposing of objects and mythologies. She exhibits across the UK and also curates diverse projects and exhibitions. Her most recent commissions have been a site-responsive installation, Restless, for the Museo D’Arte Contemporanea di Cogliandrino, Basilicata, Italy; and sculptures for the set o Emerald Fennell's film 'Wuthering Heights', 2025.

🥂📣 Next Up @jmillarstudio 📣 Come join the conversation & get to know this artists intriguing practice - Jane Millar makes hand-built clay and ceramic sculptures that explore speculative futures and the relationship between human and more-than-human environments.

Drawing on research into early humans, material culture and environmental change, her works combine familiar yet strangely repurposed forms — tools, hooks, bricks, bulbs, moons, brushes and vessels — creating objects whose purpose feels uncertain, practical, ritual or perhaps magical.

Millar thinks of these works as a kind of future archaeology: objects from a place-in-progress, where there are no instructions and meanings remain open. For her, imagining futures and making new realities becomes a creative strategy for hope and survival.

The standard of applications has been exceptionally high, making the selection process a genuinely difficult one. We’ve been encouraged by the range of practices, materials and ideas represented, and we’re grateful to every artist who took the time to apply.
The final ten artists will be announced on Monday 27 July 2026.
The strength of the submissions has also prompted us to consider a second series, so if you weren’t shortlisted this time, please don’t be discouraged.

COMPOUND NOTIONS May 21st - 24th 2026
A 4 day exhibition presenting 64 contemporary artists' interpretations on the theme of COLLAGE. The exhibition explores the definition of the term through experimental and traditional media. Curated by the directors of @carts.cic @joartmcc @frogmorris and @thesarahsparkes for Art Hub Studios CIC in New Cross, South East London.
Compound Notions includes works rooted in the traditions and conventions of collage - decoupage, cut and paste, assemblage and use of found materials, alongside pieces that push the boundaries of the definition with novel materials, installation, sound and performance. The curators have taken a creative approach to hanging, with the exhibition presenting as a large scale, immersive contemporary collage.
In the 2019 exhibition “Cut and Paste: 400 years of Collage” at The National Galleries, Scotland,
figures such as Mary Delaney demonstrated that collage was not a twentieth century invention but
an earlier, often feminised form of knowledge - making and world ordering. While common
historical narratives place the invention of collage with cubism, Compound Notions draws attention
to the genre's roots in textile, mosaic and scrapbooking.
Free workshops accompanying the exhibition will allow the audience to express themselves in a
variety of ways.
