Moon Mart is a pan-asian (Korean and Japanese inspired) cafe with tonkatsu sandos, bento lunch sets, bibimbap and limited specials (congee, kong guksu etc). They also do pastries and coffee + have a mini supermarket pantry to shop from (in-house sauces, snacks and kimchi) and you can honestly find a bit of everything here tbh⁣

The owner (Hee An) used to run Moon Park and Paper Bird in Sydney before they closed down so it was good to try out her menu items in Melbourne! Was also lucky that their renovations finished just in time for my Melbourne trip 🍴⁣

The bibimbap was my favourite and the eggplant paired amazing with seaweed + white kimchi; didn't enjoy the katsu sando as much (but the tonkatsu lunch sets are super popular also and will need to try that next time!) ⁣

Happy Lunar New Year! Hope everyone had a good start to the year ☺️

This is a throwback to my visit to @lalune.sydney towards the end of last year (and took leave just to visit because they typically open Mon-Fri only!). I love the interior design and it gives minimalist Korean cafe aesthetic vibes with rattan and transparent acrylic chairs, punch needle designs from @loopingstudio and other decor pieces (Matisse art, books and leafy greens). It's also open occasionally on Saturdays too for Market Day and you can purchase from various sellers for vintage items, decor, homewares, flowers and candles. ⁣

Originally known for their mini basque cheescakes (see my story highlights under 'Small Business') it's so good to see this develop into a well-loved cafe and offer an expanded menu! 🤍

The menu changes daily, but my favourites would be the drinks and dessert items (esp the croffle! 🌟). The house-made sandwiches are so loaded and filling too (perf for a quick lunch). ⁣

@dokidoki.chatswood is a Japanese asian fusion restaurant open for brunch (w/ a separate brunch menu), lunch and dinner. Originally a Melbourne venue but now in Chatswood (under Aime Coffee and near library) ✨
⁣
Overall I loved all the dishes (esp the cheesy wagyu roll) and the menu is quite extensive too. The unagi don still had a few large bones though which was a bit disappointing and unsettling, but flavours were otherwise delicious! 🍴 ⁣

Would defs visit again to try other dishes - it's a good go to in Chatswood for Jap 🤍

Italian in Sydney Olympic Park 🍝

By day, the venue is a Korean fusion brunch cafe, and by night (excluding Sundays), it trades as an Italian restaurant!

Highly recommend the focaccia w/ truffle parmesan (also good value) and the mafalde pasta but the highlight is definitely the cookie crumble tiramisu 🍪

The no.1 global Korean hotpot franchise (Jomaru Gamjatang) has recently opened in Sydney with 2 branches (Strathfield + Eastwood) 🥘

We ordered:

╰ Aged Kimchi hotpot ($70) w/ additional instant noodle topping ($7) and fried rice
╰ Sweet Spicy Grilled Pork Bone ($65)

Everything was delicious (aged kimchi also gave the gamjatang a good tangy flavour); portions are generous and the fried rice (using the gamjatang broth) is my fav (save room for it!)

Neighbourhood bistro dining with modern Asian fusion dishes in Chatswood 🍴 —

• Burrata / Achiote / Capsicum / Tomato / Sourdough (VG)
• Spanner crab pasta / Bisque / Herbs
• special dinner menu item: Peking duck - dried for 3 weeks!

~$100+pp

was so full from Jomaru that I couldn’t eat dessert lol and will need to go back for the lunch menu + the matcha cheesecake 🍵 🍰

Taste Texture, Alexandria
@tastetextureofficial is a vibrant local cafe near Green Square station featuring an asian fusion brunch menu.

We ordered:

╰ Living in NY ($30): braised short rib w/ macaroni and cheese (⭐️) - must order: it’s a unique menu item; the meat falls off the bone and it’s decadent without feeling too heavy 👌
╰ Very simple french toast ($19)
╰ Double smashed burger w fries ($20)
╰ Matcha cloud coconut ($9)
╰ Matcha einspanner ($9)

Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area, kitchen open daily 7am-3pm. Also dog friendly cafe 🐕

📍Nori Table, Paddington

A hidden gem in Paddington featuring high-quality sushi train + made-to-order dishes (sashimi, donburi, udon, ramen). The seafood is fresh and portions are generous! Highlights / must-orders are their sashimi platters + entrees (the wasabi is also unique + best I’ve tried). Pair their dishes with genmaicha tea (or BYO wine) + matcha cheesecake! 🍷🍵🍰

An original brunch cafe in Chatswood that’s been a go-to favourite for years - they do an asian fusion brunch as well as classic breakfast items 🍳🥑 - favourite was definitely the seafood tom yum pasta 🍝+ french toast 🍞

📍Missing Spoon, Gordon

Back once again at Missing Spoon and their food never fails to deliver - they recently launched a new menu (whilst keeping their classic menu) and everything was so balanced, fresh, generous in portion sizes and delicious!

I highly recommend their lunch meal sets (the cheese katsu soiree in particular is unique in Sydney and my favourite!); but the new tempeura udon was also amazing and would definitely order again 💛

📍 Letra House, Sydney CBD

Located below Palazzo Salato, Letra House is a Spanish restaurant and bar (by the same owners) with similar vibes to La Salut (before it closed last year). Definitely must order the prawn toastada (my fav) + botifarra + anchovy donut; steak was good but not $100 good; everything else was ok (but didn’t particularly stand out). Extensive wine menu (50+) including dessert wines 🍷
