POSTS STORIES REELS

I’m delighted to share that I’ve been awarded an Arts Council England Research and Development grant.

The funding has supported a period of research exploring colour, light and glass, including time spent at the Corning Museum of Glass and Rakow Research Library in New York State, and attendance at the GAS Conference 2026. It’s given me the opportunity to investigate how glass is used within contemporary technologies and to begin developing a new body of work that I’ll continue back in the UK, in collaboration with Dr Heike Brachlow and Dr Daren Caruana at UCL.

I’m incredibly grateful to Arts Council England for supporting this period of research.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the application possible, especially Dr Daren Caruana, Richard Whiteley richard.whiteley, Dr Heike Brachlow @heikebrachlow and Natalie Boobis @nathalieboobis for their generosity, encouragement and support throughout the process.

I’m excited to see where the research leads next.

WAAW World: Circle
Circle (2026) marks the first exhibition curated by WAAW World, commemorating our successful fifth anniversary!

Curated by Annya Sand and Alena Peschek the exhibition titled Circle, celebrates a powerful network of female artists who have continuously championed, inspired and uplifted one another throughout their creative journeys. Drawing on the symbolism of the circle - unity, wholeness, protection and continuity - the show explores the strength of collaboration and the enduring impact of community. Without a beginning or hierarchy, the circle becomes a metaphor for shared creative energy, mutual respect and collective empowerment over competition. Through Circle, WAAW World aims to foster solidarity while echoing the long-standing tradition of women gathering to exchange knowledge, stories and artistic expression within a safe and inclusive space.

Jo Guile is a multidisciplinary sculptor working with glass as both subject and medium. She studied Fine Art Sculpture at the University of Brighton and completed an MA in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art. She is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors, and her work has been exhibited both in the UK and internationally, including at the Stanislav Libenský Award (Prague, 2025-2026), Venice Glass Week (Venice, 2025), and Colour Made Manifest (Pumphouse Gallery, London, 2024). In 2026, she was Highly Commended in the John Ruskin Prize, and she is an associate member of the Royal College of Art’s Materially Engaged Research Cluster (MERC).
Working across site-specific and stand-alone works, Guile’s practice returns to acts of looking where vision slips, stalls or folds in on itself, exploring how we encounter images and colour across physical and digital contexts, creating layered encounters between index and illusion where seeing is neither instantaneous nor fixed. by @jo.guile

Yesterday I had the pleasure of speaking at the Contemporary Glass Society symposium Ideas and Translations in Glass at Morley College London.
It was a real privilege to share my work and research alongside such a thoughtful group of artists and makers. Thank you to the organisers at Contemporary Glass Society and to Maria Zulueta and everyone at Morley College for such a warm and generous event.
It was especially great to speak alongside Joseph Harrington, Dr Helen Slater Stokes, April Hillingross, Natasha Redina, and Caroline Reed, and to hear such a wide range of approaches to making and thinking through glass.
Thank you to everyone who came, asked questions, and shared conversations throughout the day.

Over the next few days we are welcoming new members who have recently joined the Society. Please join us in wishing a warm welcome to Jo Guile MRSS @jo.guile

Jo Guile is a multidisciplinary sculptor working with glass to break down and reform light in site-specific and standalone works. Her practice returns to acts of looking where vision slips, stalls or folds in on itself, exploring how we encounter images and colour across physical and digital contexts, creating layered encounters between index and illusion where seeing is neither instantaneous nor fixed.

$Negative Ground VII These works explore how glass can register, reflect, and reconfigure overlooked spaces, beginning with moulds taken directly from cracked pavements and weathered ground. Translated into blow-moulds and formed in glass, the impressions carry distortions that become integral to the mirrored surface. The resulting reliefs act as lenses that refract, invert, and multiply the surrounding space. As viewers approach, their own image merges with the index of the ground, creating a layered encounter between trace, image, and embodied looking. #contemporarysculpture #glasssculpture #blownglass #materialpractice #installationart by @jo.guile$

Hand Held is a glass camera obscura held in the hands. The image is inverted and re-formed through the lens, unsettling orientation. Seeing becomes active and contingent, shaped through movement, blending the real and reproduced, the embodied and the digital.

Thrilled to have been awarded Highly Commended for the John Ruskin Prize.

Negative Ground X & VIII

Formed from moulds taken from overlooked ground surfaces, the glass reliefs act as reflective lenses, collapsing trace and reflection so that seeing becomes slow, layered, and unstable.

Thank you to the Ruskin Prize judges, organisers @thebigdraw_org, and @ruskintoday (The Guild of St George), and to everyone who came to the exhibition at @trinitybuoywharf.

It was fantastic to attend the launch of another colour and poetry publication by @jo.volley and created by @lesley_sharpe.

I’m really pleased to have contributed, Dichroic glass: Light as pigment, text developed from a talk I gave on World Pigment Day at the Slade School of Fine Art.

The launch was beautifully curated by @stephanienpartistcurator and coincided with a showcasing of Nomenclature of Colour III, a digital exhibition including my piece Blank Screen IV, shown at @corner/camden.

$Last few days of the Stanislav Libenský Award, Prague - open until 10 January. What an honour to be part of this incredible exhibition. My work Additive has been selected for the Stanislav Libenský Awards 2025. Additive is a triptych of three solid glass half-cones, each coated with a different dichroic surface: Yellow, Blue, Cyan, Dark Red, Magenta and Green. The work plays with the relationship between RGB, the colours of light, and CMY, the primary colours of pigment, using ultra-thin metallic coatings applied to clear cast glass to generate colour purely through the refraction and reflection of light rather than through any pigment. Inspired by the question “Does colour exist in the mind or the world?” the forms reference the cone cells in the human eye-the biological basis of colour vision. The Stanislav Libensky Award is an international prize dedicated to supporting emerging glass artists. Established in 2009 by the Prague Gallery of Czech Glass, the award is open to recent graduates from around the world whose final work incorporates glass.
