I really enjoyed drawing this rose. It made a nice change from the colours I usually use when drawing animals. This was drawn on Derwent Lightfast paper using a combination of different coloured pencil brands. I found myself using more Caran d'ache luminance and Derwent Lightfast pencils for this drawing.

Getting close to finishing this rose. Had a bit of fun working on the leaves today. Only four petals and a leaf to finish. Hoping to do that in the next couple of days.

I think orangutans are amazing animals. Do I think they are amazing animals to draw - definitely not🤪 The details on this drawing are going to have me cross eyed well before it's finished. After a few hours progress I'm more than ready for a break. I think it's time for a couple of rose petals before I persevere with more orangutan wrinkles tomorrow.

After a busy week, I managed to make more progress on the rose this afternoon. I'm pleased to say I'm almost half way now. And I've finished the fiddly centre details. Let's see if I can get back to the orangutan tomorrow.

I don't want to think how long this is going to take. Like the song title, 'a thousand years' sounds about right. I'm working on A3 sized paper (roughly 8 x 12 inches) so not a huge drawing but not tiny either. My stubborness has kicked in so I'm determined to keep going now. Hmm I wonder how long that will last🤔

The petals won out today when I was choosing which drawing to work on. I needed a day off from orangutan wrinkles. The flower is definitely taking shape now. I'll be able to add the centre soon then start on the lower petals that will have some pink pencils adding to the ever growing pile that I'm using. There's a real mix of pencil brands in this drawing. Listening to Smokie while I worked brought back memories😁

It felt like a botanical day today so here's an update on my rose drawing. There's a nice range of colours in this picture which means I'm able to pull out lots of different pencils. My Derwent drawing pencils are a recent addition to my collection and they are lovely to use. Will tomorrow be an orangutan or another flower day?

I have decided to have another go at this close up drawing of an orangutan. I started it last summer but wasn't happy with how it was going so put it to one side. So here is the start of version two. Will I finish it this one? It's definitely not an easy subject but let's see how it goes. These are all the pencils used just to create the eyes. I'm sure the pile will get bigger as I move into the face and fur!

This little cutie is now finished. I don't often work with just black, white and greys but this raccoon did not need any surprise colours sneaking in. He was drawn with coloured pencils on grey Pastelmat paper. I hope you like the way he turned out.

Back to fur today and without a single bright colour in sight! I couldn't resist this raccoon's cute face so I haven't minded all the black, white and greys in this drawing. I seem to like reference photos of animals staring out at me. I'm mainly using Polychromos pencils on grey Pastelmat paper.

My first post for a while and it's not fur or feathers! I thought it would be fun to use my brighter pencils since they don't get used too often. Flowers fit the bill for bright colours so here's a dahlia, perfect for the hot summer days we're having. I really enjoyed working on this drawing so I will definitely do more flowers. Fur and feathers are still on my drawing list though

Why did I decide to draw an orangutan! Especially an adult male since the details on its face are insane. Oh well, I've started so hopefully I'll finish (sometime this century). The reference photo was taken by my son and I couldn't resist it when I saw it. Next time he shows me a photo as detailed as this, I think I will give it a pass😄

I'm working on Fabriano Artistico paper using coloured pencils. The paper size is 32 x 40 cm.
