Today was insane! Such a moody atmospheric day in Ouray. Mist, rain and sun each competing in a dramatic show. Fall colors to boot! WOW! Today I was reminiscing the fact that earlier this year I was unable to walk and here I am hiking the perimeter trail. Grateful doesn’t quite do it justice. Life is full of incredible moments, glimpses of beauty, and so much potential. Life is a gift. Thankful for fall, great friends, and calling SW Colorado home. taken in Colorado by @jobean

Falling, fallen
Fall from; fall begun
These leaves don’t weight a ton
Yet still they shed them

Blankets, memory
Flower girl; aisle filled
Petals fall leaves get spilled
Chaos not; it’s symphony

Green, yellow
Yellow, red, red, white stop…
Blacktop with backdrop
Old friends say hello

Buds, remember?
Fresh growth no longer, there
Regress; wander, share
Soon it’s November

Aspen, oak
Pine; pinion and pond
Reflections, memories fond
Fog has replaced the thick smoke

Death, dying
Growing old someday
Hope, regret, is that a gray?
Sunsets, sunrise, keep trying taken in Colorado by @jobean

Growth.

I’m learning to extend grace to slow improvements. Some seasons appear completely stagnant, but expanding roots or holding out for optimal conditions is part of the process. Sometimes, the painful work of pruning yields positive net outcomes.

Water can nourish, revive, and support, yet it also has the potential to drown. This relationship translates to other inputs as well. What does it look like to curate the balance that maximizes growth?

Then the question arises as to whether growth is even a noble outcome. Perhaps being alive is merely enough. Maybe it’s about growing to the fullness of our potential. Maybe the timeline is irrelevant altogether. We should strive to be the most beautiful we can be at any given moment.

Perhaps an awareness of the life we are cultivating brings focus to what really matters. Maybe we inspire others and pass some love and beauty around as we grow.

This plant has spent multiple years extending these shoots. It receives minimal but generally regular care. Today, this shadow caught my attention, and I could not overlook the work, the growth, and the beauty. by @jobean

Mend

Nine months ago today, I closed my eyes on impact and opened them to smoke, deployed airbags, and a life that was about to look very different.

What followed was three surgeons, four operations, two plates, sixteen screws, three pins, four months in a wheelchair, and more mobility devices than days in the week.

Just two months before the accident, I had carried a forty-pound pack and our thirty-five-pound daughter eleven miles down a trail in Wyoming for fun. Suddenly, I needed help getting to the bathroom, showering, and feeding myself. I didn’t know whether my right hand would ever function normally again or what capacity I would have to walk. by @jobean

Still here….
Driving to pagosa from Kansas yesterday we got about 5 miles from the house and ended up in a head on collision with a car that had rear ended a car in the opposing lane and careened onto our side. We are all a little banged up, but it looks like I’m gonna have to get some pins in my hand and will probably be in a boot for a several weeks. by @jobean
