Barbara Kruger takes over the Bourse with “The History of Tears.”

The new installation at Pinault Collection is a gut punch, exploring how tears map the space between the political and the personal.

Excited to see #barbarakruger ‘s new installation at this scale in the rotunda. I first encountered her work as a student, and years later had the opportunity to co-curate with @roseleegoldberg one of our most irreverent commissions yet for @performanyc, taking on the “drop” phenomenon and brand culture in New York. We extended this project to Paris with the conceptual artist @item_idem. Getting to know and work with these shapes and words has generated into multitudes of meanings, languages, truths and puzzling paradoxes! taken in Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection by @jobpiston

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲.

There felt like no better setting for 𝗗𝗜𝗚 𝗨𝗣 𝗠𝗬 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗧 than a converted single car garage in the city of Heated Rivalry.

A place devoted to collision, repair, replacements, and restoration became the site for my exhibition about the emotional lives of objects and the way queer folks remake ourselves through loss, endurance, excavation, and resilience.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible.

A marble female figure carved directly into a hillside quarry in the 6th century BCE, installed alongside machine parts salvaged from local industrial yards in Hamilton, Ontario.

Human time placed up against geological and industrial time.

After years of working between New York and abroad, I’m excited to share DIG UP MY HEART, my first solo exhibition in Canada. 🪨🪏🫀

Borrowed from a title by Prince Edward Island’s “People’s Poet” Milton Acorn, whose writing explored themes of love, death, labor, and working-class life, the exhibition is an excavation of materials and history from the landscapes of my hometown of Detroit and the steel town of Hamilton, Ontario. Like poetry, fragmented narratives dissolve as quickly as they appear. Ancient landscapes of Greek figures sit alongside portraits of queer artists, friends, and lovers, serving as a framework for a sculptural installation made of salvaged automotive parts sourced from Hamilton’s industrial yards. Human time is measured against geological and industrial time, where memory and decay move in vastly different scales.
