I wanted to introduce the person behind the account! My name is Jocelyn and I live in western Pennsylvania with my husband and our little lady, Olive (she’s the white doggo - we lost Smudgy last year but I love these pictures).

I am an avid reader and I love just about any genre. I read somewhere once that if you have high expectations when reading, you might be lucky enough to like a book every now and then. But if you read simply for the sake of reading, you allow yourself the opportunity to enjoy so much more. Once I realized a book didn’t have to be life changing or offer some higher wisdom, the doors opened to so many worlds. I still love the heavy stuff - but also, I’m not gonna turn down some fairy porn.

I love to ski and hike and travel. I do prefer to avoid direct sunlight and hot climates. I enjoy spending time with my favorite people and laughing until my face hurts. I love coffee, beer, and bourbon. I make custom decorated cookies (you can follow my cookie account @bakedandfrosted_by.j - I’m terrible at updating the page but I get there eventually).

Not sure who let me in @laurelandleafpa unsupervised, but my TBR isn’t mad about it.

These books were 💯 purchased based on vibes. I had specifically preordered Meet Cute Magic - but couldn’t say no to a little browsing. And browsing always leads to buying. Oops.

As part of the Great Bookish Bake Off Challenge with @comfycoffeechapters and @beauty_and_the_bookshelf_ , we were invited to make a recommendation. Might I recommend taking a nice walk through the aisles of your local bookstore. Pair it with a stop for a cozy fall beverage. Honestly, the perfect October weekend activity. by @jocey_reads

I joined @iowa_reads to create posting prompts for October. Scroll through to see my October 1-11 posts. I was traveling and decided to challenge myself to find books at the airport bookstore that matched each of the prompts.

As I’m someone who likes to get to the airport waaaaay before departure time, I had plenty of time to kill. It was a fun way to pass the time while I waited to board my flight.

❓❓QOTD❓❓ Do you get to the airport with hours to spare or are you rushing to make it to your gate?

10/1 - Pumpkin Spice Day

These two fall romances definitely give me pumpkin spice vibes.

10/2 - Name Your Car Day (book with a car on the cover)

I just finished listening to the seventh DCC book and will be starting this one soon, so it was a fitting find for this prompt.

10/3 - National Boyfriends Day (favorite book boyfriend)

I haven’t read this series, but I love Lucy Score and she always knows how to write an amazing book boyfriend. I’m definitely adding this to my TBR.

10/4 - National Taco Day (taco stack)

I found books that I could “spell” taco with using the first letter of each title.

10/5 - World Teacher’s Day (academic setting)

This looked like a fun series to start - I’m 20+ years postgrad, but I like to get nostalgic for those days every now and then.

10/6 - Mad Hatter Day (hats on the cover or Alice in Wonderland vibes)

I was limited in my scope here, but I found two puzzle books, one featuring a hat and another with Alice in the title. That will do!

10/7 - Books Featuring Animals

I made the mistake of reading The Art of Racing in the Rain shortly after losing our first dog. Talk about a beautiful story that had me absolutely ugly crying.

10/8 - Books Set in Wisconsin

I felt like I should play the lottery after finding this. I just turned around, picked it up, and read the description and boom - it was set in Wisconsin. What are the odds?!

10/9 - Moldy Cheese Day (cheesy books)

Listen. I love cheese. All of the cheese. And I don’t just mean the food. I love a cheesy romance that makes me smile and feel all gooey inside. And this one looks like it would be just the cheesy goodness to satisfy my appetite.

As the summer days fade into night, let’s give one last toast to the beach reads we loved, the stories that made us sweat under the sun, and the tales that filled our nights with wonder.

I can’t think of a more perfect way to sunset on summer than a few days in the city with my girls. We had the absolute best time.

We saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I first saw it back in 2020 when it was two plays and even though it’s been condensed into one, it’s still the most magical.

On night two, we saw Moulin Rouge. It was the most incredible performance I have ever seen. Nothing will ever compare. So glad we got to see it before it closes in two weeks. We were lucky enough to get pictures with Christian and Patrick after the show!!

Of course, we ate all the food and drank all the drinks. Had the most fun scream singing on a rickshaw ride. Took in a free concert in Bryant Park. Snagged coffees at Central Perk. Bought matching hats and looked like total tourists. We hated to leave, but, the train ride home gives me some time to read (which helps ease my blues of a fabulous trip being over and summer coming to an end).

My husband and I are avid outdoor recreation enthusiasts. We love to hike, ski, and paddle board. We are always up for an adventure and most of our vacations incorporate one or more of the above activities.

I absolutely love when characters in books I’m reading also find connection to the outdoors and to the joy of physical movement. @authorjaforde “Love Along the Way” series pretty much has it all - love stories, dreamy and relatable characters, and immersion in picturesque landscapes with all the activities. I swear - reading them will make you want to pick up a new hobby (and fly somewhere awesome to do it).
