Today, I announce my retirement from international football. This is not a decision I have made lightly. Since the Olympics, I have spent a lot of time reflecting and speaking with my family, friends, teammates and coaches. I know in my heart that now is the right time. For over a decade, representing England has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. To wear the Three Lions, compete on the international stage, travel the world and captain my country is something I could only ever dream of as a young boy. Every time I stepped onto the pitch, I gave everything I had. For my teammates, my family, the deaf community and everyone who believed in me. Walking away is incredibly difficult, but after years of pushing my body, battling injuries and balancing my coaching ambitions, I know I can no longer give the role the commitment it deserves. I leave with immense pride in what we achieved together. We helped raise the profile of deaf football and leave the England programme in a stronger place for the next generation. To every teammate, coach, member of staff and supporter who has been part of this journey — thank you. Your trust, friendship and support have meant everything to me. While my playing career with England comes to an end, I hope my journey with England is not over. I look forward to exploring opportunities to give back to the game through coaching. Wearing the Three Lions shirt has been the greatest honour of my life. And the number 12 was never just a number. A fantastic couple of days in Málaga with @spanishsoccertrials. 🇪🇸 A huge thank you for the invitation and the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the Spanish football pathway, from grassroots through to the senior game. It was a brilliant few days of learning and networking with a number of top La Liga coaches, sharing ideas around methodology, player development, and the values that underpin elite environments. It was also great to support one of our players during his trial in Spain and see him experience football in a different culture. We leave with plenty of ideas and inspiration that we’ll now look to implement into YP’s own methodology and player development principles. …and of course, a game of padel in the Spanish heat! ☀️🎾 Always learning. Post retirement 🫡 Just trying to live a little more and appreciate the little things. Fully focused on the YP project. The purpose hasn’t changed: to be the best we can be. I can’t express how much the love and support has meant since announcing my decision to step away from England. The countless messages have genuinely hit me deeply. I really did get to live a dream. Since 2018, thousands of players have trusted us with their development, and that responsibility is something we never take for granted. At YP, we don’t believe in simply running football sessions. We believe in creating an environment where players are challenged, supported and inspired every single week. Our proven coaching methodology and curriculum have been built to develop complete footballers. Every session is carefully designed with a strong focus on: • Ball Mastery • First Touch • Game Intelligence • Decision Making • Technical Excellence • Confidence, Resilience & Mentality We also understand that real development doesn’t happen in overcrowded sessions. That’s why we deliberately keep our group numbers limited, allowing every player to receive individual attention, detailed coaching and meaningful feedback from experienced coaches who genuinely care about their progress. Whether your child is taking their first steps in football or already competing at a high level, our goal remains the same—to help every player become the very best version of themselves, both on and off the pitch. Our 2026/27 programmes are available for players from U6–U18, with sessions taking place throughout the week across Sheffield. We Need Our Community 💚⚽ Firstly, we can’t thank everyone enough who has already given their time, effort, donations, and acts of kindness to help us take the first steps in rejuvenating our ground. Every single contribution has made a difference. Now we need your help again. Saturday 11th July is our biggest volunteer day yet, and we’d love as many people as possible to come along and help us make even more progress. If you can spare a few hours, please let us know—we’d love to see you there. Here’s what we’ve achieved so far 👇🏻 ✅ Football Foundation grants are in motion. ✅ Dugouts are being refurbished. ✅ Sponsorship boards are being printed and will soon be displayed around the ground.
