As a father, I fear nothing.
Not bills. Not chaos. Not four kids running full speed through the house like it’s a WWE tryout.

But there is one thing… one tiny, transparent, soul-snatching object… that nearly ended me.

The clear Lego.

You don’t see it. You don’t hear it. It just waits. Patient. Silent. It’ll sit there for days—weeks even—like a spider in a web.

I stepped on one at 8:12 a.m. and immediately saw my entire life flash before my eyes—wedding day, first child, the last peaceful nap I ever had. My nervous system shut down like someone pulled the plug. Legs gone. Vision blurred. I made a noise no grown man should ever make.

I’m pretty sure my soul left my body for a second.

Forget fight or flight… this was “just fall and let God welcome you, Joel.”

Emerson thought it was hilarious. “Haha daddy, you ok?” Meanwhile, I’m laying on the ground whispering, “Tell them I love them… take care of your mommy.”

So yeah… I don’t fear anything.

Except that clear Lego.

Because it’s not a toy.

It’s a weapon.

Yeah… 100 lbs bottoms-up TGU.

Got it overhead. Fought for every inch. Shaking, grinding, questioning life choices… and still kept moving.

Almost stuck it.

That last piece? The landing.
That’s where it got me this time.

But here’s the thing—when you’re balancing 100 pounds upside down over your head, “almost” isn’t failure… it’s proof you’re right there.

Close enough to taste it.
Close enough to know it’s coming.

Run it back. Clean it up. Stick the landing.

Years of consistency for seconds of progress.

Strength is often measured by how much you lift in simple patterns.
The Turkish get-up measures something different.

A controlled get-up with 141.6 lb requires shoulder stability, core strength, mobility, balance, and patience under load. It isn’t about muscling through—it’s about owning every position from the floor to standing and back down again.

Very few gyms even own a 64 kg bell. As you can see I don’t even own one. I had to make one.

There’s no leaderboard for this lift, and very few people ever pursue it. That’s part of what makes it meaningful. Progress here is slow, technical, and earned over years, not weeks.

Heavy get-ups aren’t impressive because they’re rare.
They’re rare because they demand consistency, respect for the process, and long-term health.

Bottom line

Completing a 141.6 lb Turkish get-up places someone in an extremely rare category of strength, mobility, and skill combined—not just “strong,” but highly resilient and well-trained.

1. Kettlebell Standards Context

Common benchmark bells
• 24 kg (53 lb) – solid intermediate milestone
• 32 kg (70 lb) – strong, well-trained
• 40 kg (88 lb) – advanced
• 48 kg (106 lb) – elite for most people
• 56 kg (123 lb) – world-class territory
• 64 kg (141 lb) – exceptional / rare

Many respected kettlebell coaches consider:
• 48 kg TGU = elite achievement
• 56 kg TGU = international-level strength
• 64+ kg TGU = top-tier, lifetime achievement

2. Percentile Among Trained Lifters

Let’s restrict the comparison to people who:
• Strength train regularly
• Know and practice Turkish get-ups

Estimated percentiles
• 24 kg → ~50th percentile
• 32 kg → ~80th percentile
• 40 kg → ~90–95th percentile
• 48 kg → ~97–98th percentile
• 56 kg → ~99th percentile
• 64 kg (141.6 lb) → 99.5–99.9th percentile

Ever been heckled by a 4 year old?🤣🤣

😂 77 lbs. Turkish Get-Up with a Quake Bar… trying to stay stable, focused, and in control.

Meanwhile, my 4-year-old is making sure I’m okay… by checking on me AND talking trash. 💀

“YOU GOT BABY ARMS!” 🤣🤣

Nothing like risking life and limb under a wobbly barbell just to get roasted by someone who still needs help reaching the sink. 😂

Forget a spotter. I’ve got a personal trainer who charges in snacks and specializes in trash talking. 💪😂

The day God made my wife, He said, “Let’s see what happens when I mix beauty, brains, and a great sense of humor…” 😂

Then He added a tiny bit of patience, a WHOLE LOT of attitude, and apparently threw the measuring cup away. 🤣🔥

And just like that… my favorite blessing became my biggest daily challenge. ❤️😂

Wouldn’t trade her for the world… but I’d definitely like to speak to the chef about the attitude portion. 💀🤣

Ready for this challenge 225 lbs for 30 reps. 🥵

At rep 15: “I got this.”
At rep 20: “No, you don’t.”
At rep 21: It was no longer a squat challenge. It was a fight for survival. Pure grit, questionable life choices, and a brief conversation with God.

Somewhere around rep 25, my legs started drafting their resignation letter. 😂

No joke literally shaking….

But 30 reps got done. 💪

The moral of the story? Never trust the guy in your head who says, “I got this” at rep 15.

WEDNESDAY WORK. 🏋️‍♂️

Deadlift + upper body. No gimmicks. No circus. Just moving some weight and getting stronger.

🔥 Deadlift: 4×4 @ 320 lbs
💪 OHP: 4×6 @ 105 lbs
🦍 Barbell Row: 4×6 @ 205 lbs
⬆️ Pull-Ups: 4×6–8
🔥 Close-Grip Bench: 3×8 @ 185 lbs

The goal isn’t to destroy yourself every workout. The goal is to show up, execute, and stack good sessions on top of good sessions.

At 40, I’m not training to impress the guy next to me. I’m training so 50-year-old me is still doing things most people thought I couldn’t do at 40.

Strength is built one rep, one workout, one year at a time.

56 KG Turkish Get-Up at 40 years old. 💪

Still moving heavy weight. Still working on mobility, stability, strength, and control. Still proving that getting older doesn’t mean you stop chasing hard things.

The goal isn’t to be 20 again.

The goal is to see what a 40-year-old body can still do when you take care of it, train consistently, and stay patient.

56 KG today. Keep pushing. 🦾

I’m always up for a challenge—and I love it when people send me challenge videos.

Someone said, “Can you do this?”

So naturally… I had to find out. 😂

Is it practical? Probably not.
Is it necessary? Nope.
Did I try it anyway? Yup 👍.

Sometimes it’s fun to do dumb things—safely, of course, and preferably when the wife isn’t around.

Keep sending me those challenge videos, and comment below with your own challenge idea. Make it creative, make it difficult, and let’s see if I’m willing to find out!

Being a dad changed everything about me.

It gave me a reason to push harder, get back up, and keep moving forward when life gets heavy.

I’m not perfect, and I don’t always have the answers. But I know my boys are watching, and that alone makes me want to be better.

Everything I do now carries a little more weight because it’s not just about me anymore.

I hope the lessons I leave behind mean something. I hope they remember what I taught them—not just with my words, but by the way I lived.

I hope they have the strength to stand on their own two feet, face whatever life throws at them, and never be afraid to get back up.

And maybe that will be the true measure of the job I did as their dad—not whether I made their path easy, but whether I prepared them well enough to walk it on their own.

Not to need me forever but, to be strong enough to carry on and walk their path with courage and confidence. That they have the tools they need to succeed.

And if I can leave them with that, then I’ll know I did my job. ❤️
