As the week opens up...i was just gathering some thoughts on the show at Metro Chicago last night with Bright Eyes. I made sure to take in soundcheck as the larger band format was working out bits and pieces of songs. Conor Oberst still posses a calm and quiet demeanor as the tweaks were made on few tracks.

Congratulations to the entire band / ensemble as we welcomed them all back to our city and venue.

The message of "thank you" goes out to all the bands crew and the incredible metro staff. The behind the scenes is something i have always noticed.

I hope to see this show again...it was just that good.

Good Day...as the day rolls out and I am prepping for my monthly installment of the JPS DJ Session at Gman Tavern today from 3pm until 7pm.

The reshuffle started early as I began the pulling from all corners of my collection to play some new tracks and still be consistent with the classics, we have all come to enjoy.

Today proceeds from the sale of all Krombacher International beer sales will benefit our local pantry / health services Nourishing Hope right here in Lakeview.

Stop by for a smile, tune and a cold one as we help our community.

This is the perfect day to see friends and family in our friendly local tavern, come be part of it.

As the weather turns and as it is easily one of my favorite times of year rolls up. I get ready for the late summer / early fall DJ Session at Gman Tavern.

I have to say post summer sets the cozy confines of the Gman lends to a great day party atmosphere.

Records are being pulled and selected for this weekend's event.

We hope to see ya there as we welcome the new set and season in stride with cold drinks and hot tunes. by @joemetro40

Last night Gman Tavern we hosted a true legend #LennyKay. The stories and songs he shared had the capacity crowd on their feet dancing and bopping to songs.

The The Velvet Underground and Boxtops medley was one I was not expecting. The readings from the Waylon Jennings book and the Lighting Strikes books were great yarns of music history read by the author.

The show stopper may have been the "ghost dance" by Patti Smith as a singalong broke out at the chorus.

Thank you...Jill Hopkins-Olewnik for being the glue to this event, we truly enjoyed that one.

Nora O'Connor Kean your opening set was just wonderful!!

All the Gman Tavern staff that made this one really resonate.

Most importantly all the patrons / fans that showed up to support this legend while he is in town for Riot Fest.

Just spending some time rolling thru the Gman Tavern on the "14th" as I see the classic Sandro Miller portrait of the great Ernie Banks, who wore number 14.

The art / photos and all the ephemeral of a chicago tavern adorns the walls of this "friendly watering hole over the left field wall".

We now play music in the "northbar" and watch Jeopardy in the "southbar" daily.

The number 14 rings resonates with me today...Happy 14th Birthday Gman Tavern!!

Thank you to the staff, past and present for making it work plus all the patrons perfecting the "before and after" for all concerts at Metro Chicago and of course Cubs baseball. by @joemetro40

Last night we celebrated a local hero Phil Mosberg.

Firefighter and Artist, as we hosted a surprise birthday party thrown brilliantly by his wife Kimberly Brown Mosberg.

Delicious Food / Drinks and some great Music to add the celebration atmosphere at Gman Tavern.

As the night began we were honored by Phil as one of his latest drawings / paintings was added to the permanent collection. The beautiful piece he had brought to me at one of the jps dj sessions.

we just found the perfect spot for his incredible art work and style of capturing a second line warming up, drop by and get a peak of it in the "Northbar" in the Gman.

Happy Birthday...Phil, we proud to know you and have your work part of the collection, wish you only the best, it was quite the night. by @joemetro40

What a great weekend with a 2 night residency with Peter Hook and the Light.

Incredible set lists each night with some deep tracks alongside the anthems that all know out of this brilliant catalog.

I want to thank the band / crew and Metro Chicago staff for just a seamless weekend of music and camaraderie that proves over the years to be one of the bright lights in what we do and our chosen profession.

The music did the talking and the patrons joined in on the anthems as the band hit so many different levels and styles of the catalog, we all so enjoyed it and being together.

As I came to work today as was greeted with these wonderful gifts.

See ya next year is what I heard Hooky say!!

As summer begins to fade...the book pile dwindles with the completion of the latest Patti Smith memoir / book. "Bread of Angels" was savored over sun drenched and even some rainy days this season. It is a great read and I highly recommend this story for all. by @joemetro40

Thank you...to everyone came out to the DJ JPS session at Gman Tavern yesterday.

We raised some needed money for our local pantry Nourishing Hope via the sale of Krombacher International beer sales.

The dj set was peppered with ska / reggae classics along side some disco and funk as I went all 45's for the last 2 hours.

Tip of the hat to Danny Beck for the wonderful food spread of mufalatta sandwiches / pesto pasta salad and some cookies, they were a hit with all in attendance.

The feeling of community as an anchor with a smile and tune as the message of the day.

You all made the difference in making it such a great afternoon!!
