I’ve been thinking about love, life, and work lately. About how easy it is to get caught chasing the next thing and forget that so much of what makes life worth living is already here. The people we love, the places that make us feel alive, the work that gives purpose.

Maybe we spend too much time measuring our lives by what we can build, earn, achieve, or hold onto, while overlooking the things that were never meant to be measured in the first place.

The strange thing is that the things we care about most also seem to ask the most from us. I feel pulled towards places I never planned to go, and sometimes towards versions of myself I haven’t met yet. It’s terrifying.

Fear has a way of making the unknown feel like something to avoid, sometimes it’s just the edge of something that matters.

I’m trying to get better at recognizing the difference. To hold onto the people and things that make life feel full. by @johnjohn_phipps

My dad gave me his old Nikon camera that he bought when he was my age, it had a roll of film that had been sitting in there since 2003.

I developed the photos and got to see a photo of me and my mom at our first family home right after I was born (last pic).

It was kind of like uncovering a fragment of my own life that had been quietly developing in the dark.

There’s something weirdly poetic about the delay, the memory already begins to reshape the experience before the image returns to you. I love that these moments on film over the past several years mean something to me and only me. And can still mean something to someone else.

MIT finalists and comically large check? Who’s surprised tho 👀 (everyone)

We were 1 place away from the grand prize??? That’s insane??

Shoutout to every team we met at the semis and the finals along the journey. Seeing the technology everyone’s building has restored my faith in humanity.

We got knocked at the global semi-finals last year so to come 2nd this year really reminds me how far we’ve come🤧

Excited to share that ALBON has been selected as a Finalist for the 2026 @mit Climate & Energy Prize in Boston.

After falling short at the semi-final stage last year, this is a meaningful milestone for our team - and a strong reflection of the progress we’ve made since then.

More importantly, it signals that ALBON is continuing to move in the right direction, with growing technical maturity and stronger commercial traction.

Since 2025:
- Partner LOIs and EOIs have progressed
- Our patent filing process is underway
- Dr Andrea Gonzalez joined as Co-Founder & CTO
- Dr Xiaoxi Wu joined as our photobioreactor advisor, supporting our scale-up pathway

A big thank you to the @cep_mit team for a fantastic event in Singapore, and to the sponsors who helped make the trip possible.

2 years. Thousands of hours. Hundreds of meetings. 1 dream.

We’ve just been selected for the @hultprize Global Accelerator - a fully sponsored, month-long program in the UK bringing together 22 of the world’s top impact startups 🌍

Chosen from 188,000+ applicants across 131 countries - we’ll be pitching our solution on the global stage…
…for a chance at USD 1,000,000 in funding 💥

We’ve had moments of doubt.
Late nights, hard calls, and sacrifices no one sees.

But this makes it worth it.

From an idea…
to representing Australia 🇦🇺

Huge thanks to the ALBON team, mentors, friends, and early supporters, we’re only getting started.

💪💪💪 Let’s keep building.
