Wandering in the small and, sometimes forgotten agricultural communities deep in the San Luis valley of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. Life does certainly move on, but I find a peacefulness in these places. A calm. This is San Acacio, CO. Population 56, in the 2020 census and I’d be willing to bet, less now. I met a gentleman at the church and we chatted for a bit. He lived here since he was a boy and was proud to tell me the church is one of the oldest in Colorado. He leads a peaceful life and that felt nice to talk about. An Acequia flowing in the background added to the quiet along with a soft breeze. I will continue to wander these places because they feel calm and that feels quite good to me right now. Finding the shade of a cottonwood tree…taking photos, playing flute and having my favorite, a roadside sammich. ✨Life.

I have visited Georgia O’Keeffe’s home a few times now and I think it is amazing. In case you haven’t been, here are a bunch of my favorites to hopefully give you a sense of the space. She created such a warm environment, and her use of light adds such feeling to the textures. Just think, she bought this place when it was little more than a few walls of ruins, and made it her own, in the 1940’s. If you get a chance to visit, I would go for it.

Some photos of Mission San Jose de Laguna from a recent road trip to New Mexico. I love the architecture of these old missions. I’m looking forward to heading back to northern New Mexico in few short weeks. I will be getting back to flute making and the creative side of myself. ✨

There is something special about the Palo Verde when it bursts into bloom in the desert. Its golden flowers leave a carpet of yellow everywhere! Blue hour is pure magic. ✨✨

I don’t know how I’ve missed this amazing place before but I’m glad I found it. Air Apparent is a public art installation by the renowned light and space artist James Turrell. It’s on the ASU campus in Tempe AZ. It is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Hohokam shade ramada and pit house. The space has over 450 hidden LED lights that are programmed to wash the ceiling with ever changing palette of colors which change the sky’s brightness and hue through the large opening. It doesn’t hurt that Venus is tracking the night sky with the moon too 😉 it was really gorgeous and peaceful to sit in the space and feel the colors shift as the night sky darkened.
