“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)

I am so excited and grateful to celebrate “Narrow Way” being released into the world on @aaronwilliamsmusic deluxe edition of “Abide.” Similar to the message of this song, nothing about this song was easy. In between sessions at a @thewayofworship retreat, with 6 of us gathered around a piano in a little chapel on a hill, the song just sort of slipped out. We skipped lunch, pushed back the schedule of the event, and gave it as much time as we could to continue to chase it down. For weeks after we continued to hone in on the lyric, wrestling and fighting for every line. This included many a voice memo, sent from airports and hotels at all hours of the night. It sort of consumed me. Songwriting does that to me at times, it requires so much of you, all of you, at times.

But in a little chapel in the hills of the Carolinas, on a campground that would be practically destroyed by a hurricane only a few weeks after, and in the middle of one of the most difficult times in my life of wounding and disappointment, a defiant and desperate prayer was put to melody. Following Jesus is truly the best thing I’ve ever done. The narrow way isn’t any easier, but it’s so much better.

I would like to congratulate and honor Aaron. Thank you for giving beautiful language to the Bride of Christ to sing and bless the heart of the Father. And thank you for being faithful in the narrow, when it is hard, unseen, and difficult. The Father sees your faithful heart. May this song and project bless the Church and all who hear it, as much as it has deeply blessed my heart.
