KONA 🌺❤️

The Island has a history of brutality, and on Saturday I got a front row seat to all her teeth. The Big Island humbled me, big time. 🌋

It wasn’t the performance we trained for. My body refused to respond to the fuel and sodium I was feeding it, and the race quickly became about survival. Things got dark, physically and mentally, and simply making the finish was the only goal.

It was my slowest finish by three hours, but the finish I’m proudest of. Sometimes the hardest days become your best.

Thank you for the hundreds of messages of support. It’s a privilege to represent my family, friends, team, tri club, support crew and country on a World Championship start line. I’ll never take that for granted. When you’re struggling and isolated, those messages all land.

A massive shout out to my coach, mate and good bastard, @nz_matt_kerr . We prepared for a performance, but also for the hard. When the day turned into a dog fight, our preparation made the difference. Thanks, bro.

The finish line means so much more than a time on a clock. Seeing Michelle and the kids down the finish chute is something I’ll carry forever. Sometimes those on the sidelines go through more than the person racing.

Michelle, words can’t explain how grateful I am for you. For the sacrifices, the early mornings and repeated snoozing of my alarm (sorry 🤣), the time away and everything you do behind the scenes. That finish line hug is one of my favourite moments ever. No time, result or disappointment. Just us and everything it took to get there. I love you. 🫶

And to Zac, Mason and Mila you are my WHY. Always. No finish time, result or medal comes close. You guys rock. 🤘

Now it’s time to switch off, heal and focus on what matters most, my family.

Thank you, Kona. We came, we saw, we experienced, we suffered and we survived.

You’ve earned my respect. This weekend, MK Performance athlete @johnnycalley takes on one of the biggest in our sport, the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona.

Earlier this year, Kona wasn’t even a major driver for Johnny. Then he earned the opportunity, accepted it, and committed himself fully to becoming the athlete required to stand on that start line.

And he has worked his ass off.

Preparing for Kona from New Zealand through winter is a massive undertaking. Early mornings, long sessions, heat work, fatigue and sacrifice, all while being a husband, family man, businessman and leader.

It’s not simply the fitness he has built, but the athlete he has become through the process... fortunately a fair good bio product of triathlon too!

Kona will ask questions. Heat, wind, pressure and moments where moving forward becomes incredibly uncomfortable. But while the situation might be new, being in a hard place isn’t.

You’ve proved you can handle hard, Johnny.

From the team to the athlete... we are incredibly proud of you. Now go prove what you’ve built and learn that next taking 👊

What a day! IMNZ 2026…. Had to go deep to pull a 9:56 on one of the more honest courses in Ironman racing. The day had it’s challenges but its not an Ironman without the hurdles. Can’t thank the people around me enough @chelleb2 @zacc2010 @masoncalley @milacalley in particular.. This is never individual and your village does the heavy lifting so for that I’m very grateful. @nz_matt_kerr was immense, not only getting me in the right physical and mental shape pre race, but pushing me beyond what I thought was possible in the hardest moments.

My family and friends you know who you are but the messages, calls and chats all add up @dianecluitt who was ringside in both Cairns and now Taupo was awesome … @berridge.rachel @kyleberridge are always there and @rachel.mcleod.370 @_pete.mcleod @regan.gee @_mk.performance @janeyk22 @scottkerrlog @tritauranga the sideline support was amazing (apologies for the poker face)…

Lastly congrats to my other friends who raced and all the amazing volunteers on and off course! You’ve earned a rest 😂
