This weekend, MK Performance athlete @johnnycalley takes on one of the biggest in our sport, the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona.

Earlier this year, Kona wasn’t even a major driver for Johnny. Then he earned the opportunity, accepted it, and committed himself fully to becoming the athlete required to stand on that start line.

And he has worked his ass off.

Preparing for Kona from New Zealand through winter is a massive undertaking. Early mornings, long sessions, heat work, fatigue and sacrifice, all while being a husband, family man, businessman and leader.

It’s not simply the fitness he has built, but the athlete he has become through the process... fortunately a fair good bio product of triathlon too!

Kona will ask questions. Heat, wind, pressure and moments where moving forward becomes incredibly uncomfortable. But while the situation might be new, being in a hard place isn’t.

You’ve proved you can handle hard, Johnny.

From the team to the athlete... we are incredibly proud of you. Now go prove what you’ve built and learn that next taking 👊

From calf tear to Kona qualifier 🌺

Johnny's journey to Ironman Cairns 2025 took an unexpected turn when he picked up a calf strain that escalated into a full tear mid-race. For anyone who's trained for endurance events, the countless hours, early mornings, and sacrificed weekends make a DNF all the tougher. And then there's the injury itself - a significant setback.

Johnny refocused and worked tirelessly to rebuild strength, maintain swim and bike consistency, and gradually reintroduce running with a conservative plan tailored for Ironman load.

Fast forward to last weekend, Johnny lined up at Ironman NZ injury-free and crossed the finish line in 9:56, securing a spot at the Kona World Champs!
A great outcome and a testament to patience, consistency and back the process 🏆

Race week is HERE and our MKP athletes are ready.

They’ve done the work!

It doesn’t stop with the athletes. As always, the support crew behind them is massive. Partners, family, training mates, volunteers. The energy around this team is unreal. It takes more than just fitness to get to a start line like this... it takes people.

Most of the crew roll into Taupō today and tomorrow.
