Glasgow based selectors Johnny Greig and Obstrukt come together for a considered take on techno, blending darker textures with a subtle ghetto tech influence and a playful mixing style. The pairs sound is routed in timeless techno focusing on layers & textures to build the dance floor while keeping it fun with vocal heavy curveballs being thrown amongst the mix.

No stranger to the La Cheetah booth Johnny has made several visits to the basement, most recently an all night long vinyl-only stint with previous sequence guest Eubo. Johnny also holds a residency with Glasgow based collective Vice Versa, sharing lineups with DJ Swisherman & most recently RSO resident Parallx in The Berkeley Suite.

Half of Glasgow collective, High Demand, Obstrukt originally hales from Aberdeen but now based in Glasgow. He’s recently supported Tresor Resident DJ Plant Texture at Edinburgh’s Mash House as well as playing at a sold out Nightvision event in SWG3 TV Studio.

BEHIND THE ARTIST [01/10] | Johnny Greig

𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗪𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨’𝗩𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗣𝗨𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗟𝗬?

For my opening slot, my sound sits between dark, minimal and bleep-led techno. Drawing influence from Moving Pressure and SK_Eleven, I use multi-channel layering to create deep textures, build tension and take the crowd on a journey they can lose themselves in.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗟𝗨𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗨𝗦𝗨𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨’𝗥𝗘 𝗣𝗨𝗧𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗢𝗚𝗘𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗔 𝗦𝗘𝗧?

Ahead of an event, I spend hours exploring tracks and mixes from artists who fit the brief. For this opening slot, I’ve drawn heavily on Connor Wall’s deep, hypnotic sound, alongside influences from Obscur, Confusion, Rene Wise and rising talent Kai Pizer.

𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗫 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗞𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗬 𝗦𝗨𝗜𝗧𝗘, 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗘𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧?

I feel the art of the warm-up set is becoming lost, with high BPMs and harder tracks introduced too early. My focus is on creating a steady foundation, using ambient sounds to let the floor breathe while gradually building tension before Parallx takes over.

The Berkeley Suite awaits.
