Nice walk through the karstic limestone
coastal forests near Trieste today with the occasional castello to view. Black Pine, Holm Oak, Smoke Bush, Manna Ash, Cyprus Turpentine, Laurustinus, Common Myrtle in the upper canopy and flowering Pyramidal Bellflower, Alpine Cyclamen and Red Valerian at ground level. Beautiful weather but it’s so dry, hopefully the rain comes soon! by @johnprayner

We have loved walking different parts of the Dolomites over the last 2 weeks, from Renon/Ritten, to Ortesei/Val Gardena area and finally around Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The mountains were glowing and despite the monstrous summer there were a few alpine wildflowers including Alpine Thrift, Kidney Vetch, Creeping Cinquefoil, Autumn Crocus, Spring Gentian, Edelweiss, Alpine Rock Rose and more. by @johnprayner

Loved stopping into Sacro Bosco en route to the wedding, a 500 year-old garden of monsters and marvels. I have heard of this place for many years, such a treat to be able to visit! by @johnprayner

Lots of small terraces of wine grapes here on Ponza too, mostly white a few reds, using poles of dried giant reed (Arundo donax) as trellis - brilliant! by @johnprayner

A gorgeous few days spent on the beautiful Isola di Ponza. Despite the heat we managed a little walking and the swimming was excellent. Nice to see some remnant Mediterranean shrub vegetation en route to Monte Guardia, full of Genista, Common Myrtle, Mediterranean Heath, Samphire, Service Tree and more. Wonderful excursion to nearby Palmarola - named after the Mediterranean Fan Palms originally covering the island. We did see some and also Sea Daffodills by @johnprayner

Made some soup from discarded Bunya-bunya ( Araucaria bidwillii) cones recently. Scored each seed with secateurs, boiled for 20 mins, then blended with roast pumpkin (50:50) and stock - delicious!! by @johnprayner
