The Creightons Creek Recovery Group presents Reconsidering Gardens After a Fire Experience, this Sunday between 10am-12pm. This forum is an opportunity to learn more about how you can plan a more fire-smart garden that has risk reduction at its heart. Keynote speaker is @johnprayner (Burnley Horticulture). We’ll also explore some design case studies from myself and Miranda Yorston as well as hearing from the Euroa Arboretum’s Cathy Olive. A panel style Q&A will follow. Whether your garden was impacted by the recent fires or you’re simply re-assessing the risk of your garden, this session will cover a broad range of topics including design principles to reduce fire risk, the importance a garden plays in our health and wellbeing as well as practical advice on what to do next. There’ll be a coffee van onsite and a BBQ lunch will be served after the session. Please RSVP via the QR code on the attached flyer or email creightonscreekrecovery@gmail.com I hope to see you there!

Welcome to the first shared Gardener Folks profile. Yes it’s me, Steven Wells, the curator behind this all. I’m not usually one to put myself into the spotlight but this a chance to give a brief insight here into me and some of my gardening thoughts at the beginning of this GF journey before we move excitingly onto sharing about everyone else. I encourage you though to click on the link in this Gardener Folks page bio to get to the full version for a longer read at my Steven Wells The Gardener website which will be where all future GF profiles will live too. So perhaps grab a cuppa, perch yourself on your garden seat and I hope you enjoy this read. With more wonderful gardeners to be shared following this I hope you are encouraged and inspired by what everyone else shares. Happy gardening! Thanks for joining in. 🌿 #gardenerfolks

Filling the gaps between the Dianella and Agapanthus with sedum “Autumn Joy.” I can’t look at Dianella the same after @johnprayner talk at Burnley the other day. But nurturing a rental garden means we have to work with what’s there, and fill in the gaps with colour where we can. Quick story: I found one sedum plant in this garden 5 years ago amongst a sea of succulents. I had no idea what it was at the time but then saw it in @thediggersclub magazine. This led to watching a Diggers video by @jac.semmler on how to get more plants through dividing and so I’ve been slowly increasing the number of sedums through the gardens for the last 5 years! Very excited to be part of a intensive research project with @johnprayner and @novel_ecosystem working @unimelb_burnley to evaluate plant species and mixes best suited to thrive in Laak Boorndap The Melbourne Arts Precinct Plant Trials is a three-year partnership between @unimelb_burnley @artsprecinctmelburne @developmentvic @hassell_studio @superbloomau @jameshitchmough and @nigel.dunnett. The plant trials are being conducted on a rooftop at @unimelb_burnley in shallow substrate and harsh weather conditions to replicate the environment of Laak Boorndap. link to this weekend's Age article about the project in my bio Videographer draggatt

Good to visit our Sydney Metro Trials for the first time in a few months and see it thriving. Its diversity has been maintained, albeit species have moved around as natural competition takes place. Plenty of self seeding and weed load reducing. Great to show UTS Landscape Architecture students this example of innovation and testing in practice . . . #garden #gardening #biodiversity#naturepositive #resilience #regenerativedesign #naturalisticplanting #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture #gardeningaustralia #gardeningaustraliamagazine #nature #flowers #countrygarden #gardener #plants #biodiversity #pollinatorgarden #gardeners #gardenflowers #australiangarden #plantsofinstagram #pollinators #ガーデニング #trädgård #庭 #australiannativeplants #nativeplants #plantingwithpurpose #jardindevivaces #mehrjährigerGarten
