NOW REPRESENTING
JO DENNIS @jodennis__

JOHS is delighted to announce the representation of Jo Dennis.
Jo Dennis (b. 1973, UK) is a British artist based in London. Her work gives physical form to the contradictory states we often inhabit simultaneously: strength and fragility, celebration and exhaustion, disorder and control. Rather than describing specific narratives, her work creates conditions for association.

Through painting, welding and assembly, Dennis creates paintings and sculptures in which surface and structure become inseparable. Working predominantly with found objects, textiles and steel, material and process become the means through which emotional experience takes form. Military surplus tent fabric recurs throughout her practice because of its capacity for transformation. Its seams, openings and fastenings are as significant as its surface, allowing two-dimensional works to extend beyond the stretcher and into three-dimensional space. Rather than seeking balance or resolution, her work exists in a continual state of becoming, held somewhere between construction and collapse. by @johsgallery

LIST OF NO’S
Hwi Hahm
SEPT 24 - NOV 5
JOHS is pleased to present List of No’s, a solo exhibition by Hwi Hahm bringing together a selection of new paintings. The exhibition considers painting through a process of elimination: a gradual stripping away of direct depiction and narrative certainty. By removing what is recognizable, Hahm focuses on what is in front of him: color, form, art historical references, and composition.

Hahm’s paintings move between abstraction and representation, offering fragments of landscapes, interiors, bodies, and objects without allowing any one reading to fully settle. By resisting the impulse to explain what an image represents, Hahm redirects attention toward the physical and formal qualities of painting itself. His paintings create a space between what is immediately visible on the surface and what we instinctively attempt to locate behind it.

The exhibition’s title, List of No’s, reflects this process of refusal. Each painting emerges from a series of decisions about what not to depict, explain, or resolve. Hahm turns inward, using the studio as a place to question his own position, his relationship to painting, and the limits of representation.
