MORTEN SLETTEMEÅS

Seven panels form VEKE, a new painting by Norwegian artist Morten Slettemeås, presented by JOHS for The Armory Show 2026. The panels refer quietly to the seven days of the week. Each holds its own images and moments, while a recurring horizontal line, evocative of a candlewick, connects them across the booth.

Slettemeås lives and works in Gvarv, Telemark, Norway. Drawing on his surroundings, memory, and lived experience, he moves between figuration and abstraction, allowing scenes and gestures from different moments to coexist. In VEKE, landscape becomes a character in its own right: a place where images meet, overlap, and change.

Conceived as one immersive painting, VEKE unfolds through the rhythm and proximity of its seven panels. Each can be encountered on its own, yet together they extend beyond the boundaries of a single canvas and into the space of the booth.
