SIGN UP FOR THE THING THAT SCARES YOU. 👊 Put the work in, trust the process, and you might just change your life for the better. 52kg down. A completely different life. And absolutely no signs of stopping. But it didn’t start with signing up for Ironman Wales. It started with a half marathon in Chepstow, followed by four more, one month after another, all for Dementia UK. I was petrified. I didn’t know if I could do it. But I signed up, put the work in, and that decision changed the direction of my life. Small changes became habits. Habits became a lifestyle. And that lifestyle has given me a life I genuinely love living. ❤️ Now, with less than 11 months until Ironman Wales, I’m back in that same position. Petrified of what’s ahead, questioning what I’ve signed myself up for, but showing up regardless. The plan is in place. The work is getting done. And slowly, I’m starting to see those changes happening all over again. I’ve no idea what I’ll be capable of come race day. But I know one thing… I’ll never find out unless I’m brave enough to try. Sign up. Be scared. Put the work in. Then sit back and watch what happens. 🗝️🐉 by @jointy123
THIS IS WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT. ❤️ From the kids watching me head out most evenings to run and train, to now watching them take part themselves. And getting to stand on the sidelines, cheering them on? That feeling is hard to put into words. A few years ago, me and Abbie were unapologetically unhealthy. But through consistency, commitment and having each other’s backs, we’ve turned our lives around. Not just for ourselves, but for our two little ones. ❤️ Now they’re finding the same joy in running and triathlons that I have. Watching them cross that finish line, then crossing it together as a family, is a reminder of exactly why we started. And there’s no better feeling than hearing your children say… “Daddy, I’m going to do an Ironman with you when I’m older.” 🥹 If that isn’t motivation to keep going, I don’t know what is. We’re not just changing our lives. We’re showing our children what’s possible. TENBY AWAITS. 🐉🔑 APL ❤️ by @jointy123

CHECK-IN TUESDAY! 👊 📅 20th October 2026 No swimming for a week… managed to pick up an ear infection. Turns out picking your bum then your ear isn’t the one. LESSON LEARNED. 😅😂 Still feeling the effects of the ultra. Heart rate’s playing up, legs are heavy after 8/9km… but we’re still moving! Silly games, silly prizes, I guess! 🤷‍♂️ The kids are feral. But they’re mine, and I loves ’em. ❤️😂 🐷 SODBURY SLOG — NOVEMBER 8TH! 10 miles of mud, muck and this large boy rolling around like a pig in a shit. What could possibly go wrong? 😅 🐉 IT’S TIME TO GO TO WORK. Coaches are in. The plan is set. Daily check-ins with the team, strength work I’m still too embarrassed to show (but getting more confident with every session) and training that’s got purpose. I joke around, I have fun and I’ll always be that BIG DAWG… but make no mistake, I eat, sleep and breathe this. This is my everything. The dream is real, the work is happening, and we’re building towards something BIG. WE’RE GOING ON A DRAGON HUNT! 🐉🔑 And kill a swan on the way 🦢 by @jointy123
TIME TO LEVEL UP THE IRONMAN GAME! 🐉💚 BIG DAWG TRI COACH… ACQUIRED! No more training aimlessly. No more running for the sake of running. No more jumping on the bike just because I know I’ve got 180km to ride come race day. MEET LEWIS CLEMENTS OF @lucerna_performance . 💚 Funny how life works sometimes. I first met Lewis in Tenby when I travelled down to sign up for Ironman Wales. He was on the BRAV stand at the expo, and we got chatting. At the time, I had no idea he was a coach. A week later, I bumped into him again at the BIG DAWGS shake-out swim before the lads took on Weymouth 70.3. Again, all I knew was that he was involved in the triathlon scene and was racing himself. Then, a week later, he reached out and offered me coaching. HOW COULD I SAY NO?! We just clicked from the off. We’ve got a lot in common. We’re both big lads who’ve lost a considerable amount of weight by changing our lifestyles. We’re both tradesmen who know what it’s like to graft all day, come home knackered and still have to find the energy to train. We both have young families, too. Lewis understands that life doesn’t stop just because you’ve got a training plan. There will be shit days, long days at work and mornings when the last thing you want to do is get out of bed and train. But that’s where having the right person in your corner makes all the difference. Someone who understands the bigger picture and helps you keep moving forward. BUT HERE’S THE MADDEST PART… Lewis has only gone and signed himself up for IRONMAN WALES! 🐉 So not only will he be coaching me towards this absolutely ridiculous dream, but come race day, he’ll be there facing the Dragon himself. LET’S FUCKING GO! 🔥 One last thing I absolutely LOVE about the name… LUCERNA — Latin for ‘lamp’ or ‘lantern’. A symbol of light, guidance and showing the way. And that’s exactly what this next chapter is about. Having someone to guide me through the darkness, help me navigate the unknown and keep me moving towards that finish line. 💚 by @jointy123
THE JOINT BROTHERS. 👊| PORTHCAWL SPRINT TRIATHLON 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 What a way to close out my triathlon season! ❤️ Standing on the start line alongside my older brother was a privilege in itself. His VERY FIRST taste of triathlon. I could sense the nerves. The sleepless night written all over his face. The quietness before the start. I’ve seen it before because I’ve BEEN that bloke. He didn’t need me telling him not to panic or that he’d be sound. So, naturally, like any good younger brother would… I told him to stop being a pussy and FUCKING SEND IT! 🤣🤣 AND SEND IT HE FUCKING DID! 👊 🏊‍♂️ THE SWIM The start wasn’t ideal. We were about 20 metres away from the actual start line when the horn went off. But fuck it, we got it done! Trying to explain a mass swim start is like being trapped inside a washing machine on its spin cycle. Limbs flying everywhere, bodies in places they shouldn’t be. GBH? Quite possibly. 🤣 🚴‍♂️ THE BIKE Fucking FREEZING. I knew that from my erect nipples and Graham’s tiny penis. 🤣🤣 There’s no hiding in a tri suit, mate. Get used to it! Four laps of Porthcawl. It’s not quite the Valleys, but it’ll do! 😂 🏃‍♂️ THE RUN Bikes racked, trainers on, time to SEND IT AGAIN! Only for my thigh to pipe up and say, “Nah, not today, boyo. Last week you made me run 87km, you can fuck right off. Get your brother to carry you!” 🤣 A few speed wobbles later, I made it to the finish line, just in time to catch my breath and watch my big brother come absolutely SMASHING down the finishing stretch! And then came my favourite moment of the entire day… I HAD THE HONOUR OF PLACING HIS FIRST EVER TRIATHLON MEDAL AROUND HIS NECK. 💙 That’s a moment I’ll never forget. I’ve had the privilege of watching him take on something completely new, face those nerves and prove to himself what he’s capable of. And to be there at the finish line as his little brother? Fucking special. Triathlon has given me so much over the last year, but moments like this are what it’s REALLY about. #brothers #family #triharder #triathlon #ironman by @jointy123
♻️ MACKYARD BACKYARD ULTRA — THE DEBRIEF. This time last week, I was halfway through my 8th yard at the MackYard Backyard Ultra. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Just not in the next 12 months. 😅😂 I rocked up knowing the furthest I’d run in the last six months was 15K. I had zero expectations other than to try and run further than I’d ever run before — 42.2K. The backyard format should suit me down to the ground. Run, rest, eat, repeat. What more could I ask for? Turns out, I got a whole lot more than I bargained for. ❤️ I ran alongside some of the most inspiring people I’ve ever had the privilege of being around. Every single person had their own story, their own battles and their own reasons for being there. And I think the further you get into endurance sport, the more valuable your WHY becomes. Because when you’re in the pits, when your body hurts and your head starts playing games, your WHY is the thing you go searching for. That little bit of comfort, that reminder of why you started, and sometimes the only thing keeping you moving forward. But one of the most special things about this experience was the stories we shared. Complete strangers opening up about their lives, their struggles and what brought them to that start line. No judgement. No competition over whose story was bigger or whose battles were harder. Just people listening, relating and helping each other take their minds off the pain of putting one foot in front of the other. Those stories felt like little gifts. And I’ll carry some of them with me long after the aches and pains have disappeared. I went to MackYard wanting to challenge myself, push my limits and give my head a bit of a reset. I left with so much more than a distance on Strava and a slate to remember it by. We started on that start line as strangers. We walked away with new friendships, stronger bonds and memories that will last a lifetime. ❤️♻️ by @jointy123
GO ONE MORE ♻️ While everyone is facing forward, there I am… head down, walking to the back of the pack to go for one more yard. It’s a strange place I take my own head to in these environments. I should feel confident by now. I should feel like I belong here. But there I was, head down, doubting myself. Over those 13 hours I heard stories of grief, heartbreak, hardship and battles with mental health. And honestly, I wish I’d gone a few more yards just to hear more of them. Because when putting one foot in front of the other becomes something you can barely face, sometimes it’s someone else’s story that gets you through. I went into the @mackyardevents struggling with PTSD. Since losing my mother-in-law, I’ve felt like I’ve been stuck in fight or flight. The things I saw. The things I heard. The void she left behind. Telling my children they wouldn’t get another cuddle with Nana. Watching my wife lose her mum and knowing I couldn’t fix it. I wasn’t there for FOMO. I was broken, and I needed something that would completely break me, mentally and physically, in the hope that it might help me start rebuilding. Four counselling sessions hadn’t changed much. If anything, I’d just become better at covering it up. Then 2:30am Sunday came. 13 yards in, I was broken. Physically. Mentally. Completely. The video I sent Abbie, crying my eyes out, was never meant for anyone else to see. But I promised myself I’d be real. Authentic. Accountable. So I shared it. I wasn’t there to be one of the BIG DAWGS. I had my own agenda. I was there to try and fix myself. I don’t know yet whether it worked. Maybe I’ll know in a few days. Maybe weeks. Maybe months. But one thing I do know… I left with a new friend who stayed by my side for most of those 13 yards and did more for me than he’ll ever know. @lukey_boy_ginger___ I met other BIG DAWGS, each with their own story, just as beautiful as the other. Massive respect. ❤️ I’m not done with ultras. But for now… I’ve got a dragon to slay. 🐉 Go one more. ♻️ by @jointy123

You want raw emotions il show you raw emotions. No CHAT GPT NO Ai just me at 2:30am on my 13th yard at the @mackyardevents. I was 24.4st in 2022 and now I have the privilege of feeling this! I will never doubt myself ever again. To my wife @imabbiejointx you have been my absolute rock and know exactly who the real me is.. you wanted to pull me out at yard 7 but I kept going back out. Thank you for never saying no to my madness. You’ve looked after my body but more importantly looked after my mental health today iv hallucinated, iv spoke to passed relatives at points and never felt more lonely and sad in the middle of yards… i love you ❤️ I can not wait to get to my two beautiful children! Iv missed them being here today cheering me on. Love you kids ❤️ Feeling very lost but immensely proud x Finally! TENBY AWAITS! 🐉 by @jointy123

KEV’S CHECK IN TUESDAY… ON A WEDNESDAY. 😂 I ran out of time yesterday and, honestly, it didn’t feel right rushing something out just for the sake of it. So here we are… Check In Wednesday. 👊 Also… I’ve officially become a local legend on Strava at Lyde Green Park & Ride. 🤣 WHO WANTS IT?! 😂 Only 2.5 days until I take on the Mack Yard 24 Hour Backyard Ultra and I’m not going to lie… I’ve been grumpy. 😂 My head has been playing tricks on me, the anxiety has been creeping in and I’ve definitely had a few moments where the doubt starts getting loud. But… FUCK THAT. We’ve come too far to start listening to that voice now. I’ve got a job to do. I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. And I’m going FULL STEAM AHEAD LIKE ALWAYS. 👊 And finally… SOMETHING IS COMING… 👀 And no… it’s not winter. Jon Snow. 😂❄️ Just waiting for the right time to tell you all… WATCH THIS SPACE. 🗝️ by @jointy123
