@jomecia graduated from Lucia Marthas Dance Academy in 2010 and has since developed a practice as a dancer, choreographer, coach and teacher. She has worked across theatre, television and collaborated with various artists and cultural institutions across the globe.
In 2020, she premiered her first self-created performance, AWANAISA, after participating in the New Makers Trajectory at the Bijlmer Parktheater.
Since 2021, Jomecia has been involved with us at Sites of Memory as both choreographer and performer in productions such asFuture for the Past, Returning the Gaze, Free to be Free and Forget to Remember (2025).

In 2021, she obtained the Talawa Technique™ Level 2 Teacher’s Certificate, further grounding her artistic practice in the Talawa Technique™, through which she explores the decolonization of the body in dance.
Her choreography unfolds through sustained movement, shifting rhythms and carefully articulated transitions. Her work draws on stories passed down through generations as well as her own experiences where she approaches dance as a space in which Black cultural expression can be reclaimed and redefined.

In Space of Becoming, Jomecia performs as a dancer and storyteller alongside eight dancers from Sri Lanka, South Africa and the Netherlands. Together, they will explore the meeting point of different movement practices, where their individual styles intersect, influence and evolve into a collective choreographic language guided by choreographers Luke de Kock and Kapila Palihawadana.

Unlock Your Ancestral Library: A Talawa Technique™️ weekend intensive

After a beautiful first edition in Amsterdam, we’re bringing our second intensive to Brussels.
Join us for two days of training, grounding, and connection through Talawa Technique™️, the first professionalized dance method in Europe specifically developed to unlock the ancestral library of the Black body.

This intensive offers a space where dancers from Africa and the African diaspora can train from our own centers, reconnect with embodied knowledge and deepen the relationship with movement, rhythm and community. Whether you’re a professional dancer or simply feel called to move, you are warmly invited to participate.
As part of the weekend, we’ll also gather for a Community Dinner & Jam on October 24.

Luku Xam x Kumata
The temperature, the vibes, the sounds were 🔥🔥🔥
We had a screening of The last angel of history and @arakaza__ guided us through a session where we explored languages beyond the spoken word.
Thank you @kumata.offline for inspiring us on another level.

In @kunstmuseum.nl hebben we een fragment van Forget to Remember mogen optreden met een after talk. In samenwerking met Sites of Memory en DOX hebben we deze voorstelling gemaakt over onderbelichte verhalen vanuit de moederlijn. Via taal, beweging en herinnering.

Nanga def Luku-man’s!
In the voice over you hear Josephine Baker during her new years show in Carré Amsterdam in 1964. Josephine Baker is known for her iconic banana skirt. What was the function of emphasizing these stereotypes in these times? Was she moving through a capitalist racist society as best as she can? Is she mocking the audience? Who had the power? The audience or her? What is clear is that she’s aware of how she’s been perceived. But how did she see herself? What do you think? Luku Xam in collaboration with @theneedforlegacy delved into the archives to (re)discover histories and artistically translate them.

We are very excited to explore this with you again.
On June 25th, Storm festival invites Luku Xam to bring our performance Flying Out: a theatrical exploration of the decolonization of the black fem body.
For generations, black femme bodies have been suppressed. In Flying out, Luku Xam examines the conditioning of the black femme body over time. How did female dancers of color move in Dutch dance theater and what voice did they have?
Before the performance there will be an introduction about Keti Koti and an after talk with the theme: The body as an archive.
