Every time I go to sea it feels like a different place.

A few days difference and the wind has become slow and languid, the waves gentle and rolling, and the sun darts in and out from behind the clouds making the sea alternate between sparkling and steely. The same Lugger, but very different sailing to my previous trip on the Happy Return.

I wasn’t planning on making a video out of every voyage, but I’ve had such an amazing response to the first one I couldn’t help make another. taken in Penzance, Cornwall by @jon.rudd

Worse things happen at sea.

I got to tag along with the Mounts Bay Lugger Association’s voyage this morning, a truly beautiful commitment to both preserving and enjoying this piece of living history. Makes a nice change from having to row the boat too 🌝

Is this the start of a new collaboration and short film project? Guess you’ll have to wait and find out! taken in Penzance, Cornwall by @jon.rudd

June round up. The many, many exciting shoots this month have meant I’ve only taken a few photos for myself. Endless trains, planes, and hours driving, but you’ve got to make hay while the sun shines.

I’m delighted to announce that OLD NED’s next festival showing will be at Wyrd Folk Festival @wyrd.folkpod on September 6th!

It’s a joy to be part of such a wonderful selection of strange and imaginative short films, alongside folk from many other disciplines.

It’s been a busy few months. Walks in the bluebells, celebrating May Horns, folk dancing, blowing out the cobwebs with some sea air, my film festival debut, seeing other amazing Cornish films on the big screen, premiering OLD NED in Penzance, working back to back weeks in London, more folk music and singing with an old friend, more beach trips, more film cameras, and one very old and friendly seal in Mevagissey harbour.

THIS SUNDAY!

OLD NED is coming to London as part of the @offbeatfilm festival! I’m even going to be there in person. What a joy to be included with such exciting and thoughtful films!

Offbeat Folk Film Festival: Looking In
Sunday 10th May 2026 6:30 - 10:30pm
MOTH club, Hackney, E9 6NU

“Join us at MOTH Club, our first time there, for an evening of films about wider and more diverse voices in folk. These films document the people whose role in the story of what it is to be British is often overlooked. These joyful, thoughtful and important films show the outsize contribution made to our culture and our identity by these voices. Absolutely not one to be missed.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the premiere of my short film OLD NED on Sunday, it was truly wonderful to see and speak to you all (especially as you all said such nice things about my work!). The next stop for the film is the Offbeat Folk Film festival in London on the 10th of May.

Another huge thank you to Rebecca & Ted for all their work organising the premiere, and support in making the film. May Horns is in good hands!

It feels like spring is here at last, the sun is coming out again and the flowers are blooming.

We're really looking forward to the premiere of Jon Rudd's film Old Ned on Sunday at Pocketful of Stones in Penzance. There will be three opportunities to catch the film which has been accepted into the @offbeatfilm festival and will be screened in London in May. On Sunday there will be a chance to get to know the filmaker and the people behind the Raven King himself. Enjoy some Cornish made Gin or Rum and relax to the sound of the very talented @annadowling.fluff between showings.

We'll be holding a raffle for the big day itself, with some very limited edition offerings that are definitely not unwanted Christmas gifts; A very limited number of photos of the Old Ned promotional shoot by @lyraandmothphotography, some classic May Horns photos by @folktographic and original drawings by our teazer @bexbc

You will get automatic entry into the raffle if you pay the donation on the door. All tickets after that will be £1 a pop. Splann.

So, see you Sunday?
