To mark today’s release of his debut solo album, Kaiku, via @bisrecordsofficial , we spent some time with Finnish cellist Jonathan Roozeman, part of the Talent Studio 2026 cohort, to talk about the story behind this deeply personal project.
Rather than a standard repertoire recording, Kaiku grew out of Finland’s close-knit and highly collaborative contemporary music scene.
In our conversation, Jonathan reflects on his return to the sounds of his homeland after years spent abroad, and on the themes of nature, memory, and artistic trust that run through the project.

Watch the full conversation here, and join us in celebrating the release of Kaiku today, August 21! by @jonathanroozeman

“They are so powerful. Absolutely bombastic!” 💥

“Punch, projection and super strong!” 🔥

Several of our Larsen Artists have been putting our new Sovereign set through its paces, and the feedback has been fantastic. 🎻✨

We're excited to share that Jonathan Roozeman's debut solo album, "Kaiku (Echo) – Finnish Contemporary Works for Cello", will be released on 21 August with BIS Records!

Featuring five world premiere recordings, "Kaiku" reflects Jonathan Roozeman's close artistic collaborations with some of Finland's most distinctive contemporary composers, including Kalevi Aho, Cecilia Damström, Sebastian Fagerlund, Lauri Porra, Outi Tarkiainen and Sauli Zinovjev.

Ahead of the album release, Lauri Porra's "We Lie Down Only to Get Up Again" – based on his music for the Finnish film "Myrskyluodon Maija" ("Stormskerry Maja") – is already available to stream.

We’re looking forward to the full release of "Kaiku"!
