Visual Suppression can impact your posture, movement, pain, balance, depth perception (tennis, baseball, softball etc.), reading, peripheral awareness and obviously your eye sight.

Tie a knot in a string/shoelace (not a call charging cord) and see if the X intersects the knot at varying distances.

Vision lives IN THE BRAIN. Continued lack of input/information from the suppressed eye will continue to keep it “off line”. The nervous system needs a reason to pay attention to it.

Are you experiencing visual suppression? Whatcha gonna do about it? 🤔🧐

There’s a lot of emphasis on external rotation in the training world. However, HIP internal rotation needs attention as well.

This is one of my favorite #ZHealthperformance #hipmobility drills. It’s deceiving! Most have trouble NOT using compensation patterns (utilizing a hip hike, or moving the femur too much) to drive the motion.

Strength of the Glutes on the bottom hip play a role in that. However, I find that a lot of my new clients have never accessed the pathways ⚡️needed to figure out how to execute these hip pendulums.

Some of my more advanced clients can load these up with a light band as well (anchored to a rack or hook).

I teach these in both the sagittal and transverse planes. Moving the hips independent of the trunk is a helpful skill to develop.

As always…challenge range of motion, but don’t move into pain🙃

What do you do when the usual tools stop changing the outcome?

More mobility.
More strength.
More corrective exercise.
More manual work.

Sometimes, the missing piece isn’t another exercise.

It’s the nervous system.

The nervous system is the governing system behind movement. It’s fast, adaptable, and constantly responding to the information it receives.

When pain keeps returning, mobility won’t stick, strength plateaus, or movement just isn’t changing the way you expect, there may be inputs you haven’t assessed yet.

That’s what Neuro Integration is about.

This 2 day hands on seminar will teach you how to assess and integrate:

→ Vision
→ Vestibular & cerebellar function
→ Sensory and proprioceptive input
→ Respiration
→ Gait and movement
→ Neuro based interventions with reassessment driving the process

No guessing which “neuro drill” someone needs.

Assess → Intervene → Reassess

For coaches, trainers, physios, athletes, and movement professionals who want another layer for the clients and athletes who aren’t responding to traditional methods.

⚠️ DISCLAIMER: You may get weird looks!

I’m sure I do all the time.
Join the club! 🤣

What if that weakness or instability you're experiencing isn't just a muscle problem?

Sometimes you don't need another 8–12 weeks of strength training to see an improvement in performance. Sometimes you just need to give your nervous system a different input.

In this example, I used facial expressions to stimulate Cranial Nerve VII (Facial Nerve), which communicates with the pons in the brainstem.

The result? An immediate improvement in how stable, strong, and controlled my step-ups felt.

💡 The takeaway: Not every strength deficit requires more muscle.

Sometimes changing sensory input can immediately improve how effectively you express the strength you already have.

This doesn't replace strength training. It's another tool to explore when movement isn't performing the way you want it to.

CN 7 Funny Faces can help with any kind of extension pattern. Which one worked best for you? Surprise? Cheesy grin? Mean? Blowfish?

🧠 Change the input, change the output.

My friend sent me that first video. I totally forgot about that excursion.

Back then I couldn’t drive or turn my head. Speaking was still challenging, and I had a feeding tube for when I couldn’t physically eat (from the treatment).

I wasn’t used to being that size.

Had I not had my muscle development, I doubt I would have survived.

I was maybe 110 lbs in the first video. Last time I was at that weight was for a Pro Figure show in 2014. My body composition was drastically different though.

Muscle isn’t just about performance or aesthetics.
it’s metabolic, neurological, and protective.

It’s an investment in a body that can withstand more than you ever planned for.

👀 Staring at screens all day? Try this Regulation Drill.

We’re targeting Cranial Nerve 3 (CN III) which:

👆🏾 Lifts your eyelids
👁 Moves your eyeballs in 4 out of 6 directions
⚡️Controls your pupil size and focus.

Take a break from the screen, and go outside to do this drill if you can!

Natural sunlight is a lot better for our eyes than all of the artificial blue light.

While you do this, see how your nervous system responds.

Does one direction create a deep sigh or a sense of relaxation? Does the other feel uncomfortable? Or, is OPTION 1 the best for you?

Your body's response is valuable feedback.

Afterward, look around and reassess. Do your eyes feel less strained? Does your face, neck, or body feel more relaxed?

Sometimes small changes in sensory input can make a noticeable difference in how you feel.

Change the input, change the output. 🧠

Getting OLDER doesn’t mean every new ache, strength deficit, or tight spot is something you just have to accept.

Sometimes there are surprisingly quick ways to change the way you move and perform.

If you’re 40+, start thinking a little more globally about:
Pain. Tightness. Weakness. Balance. Mobility.

The area where you feel the problem isn’t always the only system contributing to it.

🧠 Your brain is constantly integrating sensory information and adjusting movement, muscle tone, stability, and force based on what it perceives and what it needs to accomplish.

💡 That’s why sometimes changing the input: like adding trigeminal sensory input with this midline bite, can immediately change the way a movement feels or performs.

🙅🏾‍♀️ So before writing off a strength deficit as “I’m just getting older,” assess it.

Give the nervous system a different input. Then reassess.

You might have more strength available than you think. 🧠💪

💪🏽 Change the input. Change the output.

What happens when you stop chasing symptoms and start understanding the nervous system?

This weekend was packed with:

✅️ Hands-on learning
✅️ Practical assessments
✅️ Immediately applicable strategies that attendees can take back to their clients on Monday.

Applied Neuro Integration isn't about collecting more drills

It's about understanding why you choose them, when to use them, and how to individualize them for the person in front of you.

Because better input creates better output.

🙏🏽 Thank you to the @maximizeathleticperformance Coacheswho spent the weekend learning, asking great questions, and challenging the way we think about movement, pain, and performance.

Another era, another person…

It’s hard to believe this used to be me.

I’ve left that life behind.

That grind became addicting.
And honestly… it’s hard to even remember why.

I still remember the relief after my last show in June 2019.
I cried when I saw my brother Tim backstage.
“I did it.”

That’s because my father had passed away suddenly right before prep started.

After that, bodybuilding changed for me.
The passion was gone.
It became a chore.

But I had committed to a contest date, and I refused to quit on myself.
So I pushed through.

Six months of work stress and grief, plus all of the emotions I had buried for years after my brother’s passing...

Looking back now, I truly believe that chronic stress and unresolved emotional load played a role in my cancer diagnosis.

The best thing I ever did for myself was walk away, relocate, and start over.

Sometimes healing requires more than discipline.
Sometimes it requires letting go…
Releasing what isn’t serving you…

Old injuries don’t have to become part of your identity.

Just because you’ve dealt with the same pain, weakness, or limitation for years doesn’t mean it has to stay that way.

With the right inputs to the brain, old symptoms can start to change; and sometimes disappear altogether.

Pain or limitations you’ve carried for years aren’t necessarily permanent.

Sometimes, the right inputs can even change VERY OLD outputs.

Less pain = More freedom. 😉

Good squat mechanics…until we added load. 👀

Instead of more cueing, “bracing harder,” or going back to hip and ankle mobility, we assessed the nervous system.

After finding a higher-payoff brainstem/PMRF strategy, we reassessed better under the exact same load.

Better trunk control and shin/trunk angles moving closer to parallel.

This wasn’t just a local mobility issue.

The nervous system was contributing to the output.

Not every drill gives us the result we want right away. That's why we assess, try an input, reassess, and keep testing until we find what their nervous system actually responds

Want to learn how to apply this with your clients and athletes? DM me NEURO for info on next month’s seminar.

I went to a comedy show one night in the Bay Area on September 20th. I headed back to my other brother Tim's house to sleep. In the middle of the night he woke me up and said the words that are forever etched in my mind, "He's dead."

I lived in Inglewood, CA at the time. So the fact that I was there visiting and could say good bye to him was a God send.

Having to drive 7 hours from socal to the bay area, like my parents had to do, must have been the most excruciating experience.

Eric was everything...My best friend, an amazing husband/father to his wife and kids, a comedian, practical joker, avid reader, college athlete, leader, critical thinker...and my shrink at times. 🙂

I always say he would tell me what I NEEDED to hear, not what I wanted to hear.

He challenged me.

He made me laugh.

We never left each other feeling angry. He'd always have a way to crack me up when I was mad at him. 🥹

We had EPIC battles of Mario Cart. Battle mode...On Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64.
NBA JAMS & FIFA too.

The hardest thing I've ever had to do in this life was speak at his funeral. It didn't make sense that he was gone. It still doesn't.

I didn't process his death in a healthy way. My way of coping was to suppress what I felt, and not talk about it. I chose NOT to speak about this tremendously kind, witty and beautiful man.

I could have shared the gift of who he was with the world.
Instead I held it in...
People had to "earn the right" to hear about my brother.
That was a mistake.
I wasn't "protecting his legacy"
I was protecting myself from having to grieve

Holding things in can lead to dis-ease in the body.
I know that all to well.
Now I know better.

Eric was 40 when he passed.
The year I turned 41 I LOST IT.
How in the hell was I older than my older brother?

There's so much I wish I could tell him.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him.

I am fortunate to have had the time that I did with him.
He was truly special.🩵🦋🩵

My heart goes out to those who have also lost a brother, sister, son or daughter...
