We love a Frank Soares jazz class! His advanced class continually pushes me to grow and work past my comfort zone, while his beginner class is a place to focus on foundational technique and just have fun! I haven’t been sewing very consistently this year (aside from play costumes) because my time has been pulled to other things. However, when we were invited to the Catholic Charities Gala for a second year, I knew I wanted to make a new formal outfit for the event.

I went for separates as they’re quicker for me to sew up and they have a bit more versatility for future events. I quickly settled on a high waist full ball gown style skirt (@georgeandgingerpatternco Mood Dress skirt hack as a base with alterations for a solid fabric skirt) and a high neck/low back knit shell (@patternsforpirates Wiggle Top). I was really hoping to find a true red or green Christmas plaid for the skirt, but this black, white and red window pane plaid worked just as well.

Funny story: The lady working on play costumes with me told me she thought the waistband of the skirt was too big. So did the alterations lady that I had hem the skirt. I waived them off. Cue me getting dressed last night and going “oh no, they were right - the waist is too big!” So, I ripped out and re-sewed the top of the zipper 10 minutes before we left! 🤪🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

Even with the last minute waistband chaos, I’m really happy with this look and felt festive, but comfortable all evening. There really is something so satisfying about wearing a long swishy skirt made from yards of fabric - not enough opportunities in my daily life to make it a reality, but I sure do love when it happens!

Happy Monday folks! I wanted to post an update on what’s been happening since surgery. All things considered, I’m doing okay. I was obviously exhausted and uncomfortable for the first week or so after surgery, but having the drain removed this weekend made a huge difference for the better! Everything seems to be healing well and I’m starting exercises to get my range of motion back on that side - kinda depressing how little I can raise my arm, but I know I’ll get it back in time.

I also received the results from final surgical pathology. There was quite a bit more cancer in the breast than they anticipated, including 3 tiny spots of invasive disease. I’ve been upgraded to Stage 1, though chemo looks unlikely due to the small size of the invasive spots. Good margins were achieved on everything except one side of the DCIS. So, I’m headed back into surgery on Wednesday for a margin excision and am praying it is clear so that I don’t have to do radiation.

November continues to be a bizarre month, but hoping things settle down soon!

Chapter 47. I have had the best week celebrating my birthday doing some of my favorite things - dancing with amazing instructors and friends, having yummy meals and delicious cocktails, and having a chill Disney mini trip with my family. Aging is such a privilege and I’m grateful every day to be here - still learning, still growing and soaking up everything life has to offer. Alaska - you owe us nothing! 7 night cruise on the most “Magic”-al ship, experiencing the most beautiful weather and sailing with the most fun bunch of fellow travelers. Got up close to the Dawes Glacier, took a helicopter to the top of another glacier to meet sled dogs and puppies, sailed out to meet a huge pod of humpback whales and just generally soaked in the absolute beauty of Southwest Alaska.

The boys made so many friends on the ship during the week, but so did Jim and I! Gonna miss all of the super fun humans we got to hang out and laugh with - it really does feel like summer camp in the best way. 💕

We were so lucky to get to see @jessicajanemagic again this cruise and party with Joy and Josh from @pianoparty, which was one of the most fun dueling piano sing along experiences I’ve had!

And a *huge* shout out to Gabi Gabi and Camri for being the absolute best hosts for the adult evening programming and keeping us laughing and dancing and generally acting a fool all cruise long! Will miss you both lots! 🥹

We have lived so much life these past few months and I am the most behind on posting. So, let’s start with the biggest thing, which is James graduating from his K-8 school last week 💙💛 I’ve pretty much cried every day for like 2 weeks lol I am so proud of him (and so many of his classmates!) for all he has accomplished thus far and all the adventures that await him in high school. But, I’m also so sad that it’s all going so quickly. 😭 So, if you see me and I’m randomly crying, you’ll know why. Congratulations to James! We love you and cannot wait to watch you continue to soar at Loyola! 💙🤍 by @jonesybearz
