From the 2025 ASC Photo Gallery Collection — benefiting the ASC Vision Committee’s scholarship program — now available for purchase at the ASC store.

Titled: REDFISH LAKE - 2022
By: JON JOFFIN, ASC @jonjoffin

The ASC debuted their 2025 collection at the historic ASC Clubhouse. Sponsored by Canon, the exhibition showcases still photographs created by ASC cinematographers and is curated by Paris Chong, director of the @leicagallery LA, with printing courtesy of @canonusa. The artwork will remain on display at the Clubhouse for a full year and is also available to view — and purchase — through the ASC Store.

Individual prints and box sets support the advancement of underrepresented cinematographers, their crews, and other filmmakers through ASC Master Class scholarships.

Adam Bricker, ASC @realadambricker discusses his work on the fifth and final season of Hacks @hacks in the latest Clubhouse Conversations.
Joined by interviewer Jon Joffin, ASC @jonjoffin , Bricker breaks down developing a “vintage-contemporary” look for Deborah Vance’s world against cooler, shadowed tones for Ava Daniels. He details workflow innovations enabling near-variable-ND control across 4-5 cameras mid-take, the sparing use of bespoke lenses with a rainbow flare for emotional emphasis, and shooting the show’s final scenes under tight conditions at the Louvre.

Harsh Toke.

Last week was incredibly difficult. My dear friend, with a tough exterior and a heart of gold, was taken from us.

John wasn’t just the best Key Grip I’ve ever worked with; he was also a true filmmaker. He was always ready to make the shot work, with an incredible passion for his craft and unwavering loyalty. He always had your back.

He approached every project, big or small, with the same dedication and gave 100% effort. We spent countless hours together in dark DIT tents, on sets, and on location. He was always watching and improving the shots, never complaining when I asked for more. I always did. More neg, John!

Jon never said no. He put the techno crane on top of mountains and deep in forests, places you wouldn’t think it could go. It was never a problem.

He was an incredibly talented Grip with a knack for making things work even when he didn’t have the gear or manpower. Once on a small music video, when I asked for a 20 x 20 diffusion on a windy night with a small crew, he told me he didn’t have any large rags, but he would come up with something. Half an hour later, he had gone to Home Depot and bought a large tarp, tying it between two cube vans. The light was gorgeous, and that shot is still one of my favourites.

We shared so many laughs and had so many great times together.

I remember a particularly funny incident during a music video shoot. There were several vegans on the crew, so we had the option of vegan pizza or sushi. Unwittingly, John ordered the pizza. When he took his first bite, you should have seen his face. He told me he wouldn’t feed that to his dog!

Another time, we were shooting a scene of kids performing rhythmic gymnastics. John came to me with that impish smile. “When we have the shot, ask for another take.” I did, and when the Director called action, John and the entire Grip crew came out and performed a full rhythmic gymnastics routine with the sticks and ribbons. That was John—incredibly hard-working but also playful.

You were truly one of a kind. I feel incredibly fortunate to have spent this time with you and shared so many laughs.

May your memory be a blessing my friend. by @jonjoffin
