First ever Nationals, first ever Gold…

After countless times coming in second, over and over again… the day finally came:

🥇National Champion + American Bench Record🏆🥇

And I want to be honest about something: I don’t and never have worked-out or trained for the sole purpose of competing, or for just winning Nationals.

I only compete because I’m good at what I do. Because I’ve become so good at lifting, it would be dumb for me not to compete.

I have never properly followed a program, or worn proper equipment. I deadlift conventional despite everyone else doing sumo or telling me to switch to it, or even telling me I’ll never pull 500 conventional. I bench close grip with no wrist wraps and no bench shoes.

And all of this because, at the end of the day, I didn’t want this sport to become something I had to conform to or stress about. I’d rather prove everyone else wrong and do what I enjoy, than take the easy route. That’s what drives me to do better.

Prove yourself right, and let the results speak for themselves 🙂‍↕️

However, that definitely doesn’t mean I could’ve accomplished this by myself. I am forever grateful for the ones one truly supported me and helped me find my way in powerlifting🙏🏼 by @jonny.chinea
