Third year in a row now finishing 1st in my age group @themidwestocr. Couldn’t get a picture with the flag this time around because my hands were a little occupied 😉. After all these years of doing OCR I gotta say sharing a podium with these little guys is one of the coolest things I’ve got to experience. Don’t know how much longer I can keep this reign going but I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Been to @themidwestocr three times now and finished 1st in my age group all three times 🙌🏼. This year was my worst overall finish though, compliments of the obstacle “When Pegs Fly”. I lost count on how many attempts I had on it but it had to be 10+ 😬. I had told the race owner Aaron that I had three days of racing in Ireland and this race had my arms blown up more than all three of those races put together. Overall it was a great event though, obstacles were tough and running through that terrain is never an easy task. Just have two questions though, when is the sign up for next year open and when can I buy those floating pegboards so I can practice 😉.

One week out from @themidwestocr so this will probably be the last day of tough rigs. A little different then last week, instead of alternating between Pac-Man and Gibbons we were attempting Pac-Man down and Gibbons on the way back. Which doesn’t seem like much but the reach between each attachment is way more difficult than just alternating them, you have to be way more precise.

Also I was going to overlay the video with music but the commentary/motivational words from @katiebfit82 was way too funny 😂. Appreciate the gentle parenting and pep talks OCR Mom 😉.

Officially two weeks out from @themidwestocr. Trying to combine their two obstacles “When Pegs Fly” and “Pac-Man”. Don’t know what to call this one, maybe Pac N’ Pegs or something along those lines 🤔. I’m open to suggestions 😂. Probably my last week of training hard on the obstacles so I gotta make it count .

Meet our reigning 30-39 Competitive Age Group Champion...back-to-back, 2024 and 2025.
Both years, Jon didn't just win his bracket. He finished #6 overall. So if you're racing this year and you see him on the start line, don't count him out of the overall podium either.

This year came with a challenge that had nothing to do with OCR... Jon welcomed a new baby boy. New sleep schedule, new priorities, new demands on his time. And he still makes time to put in the work.

That's the whole point of what we do here. Life doesn't pause for training. It throws obstacles at you whether you're ready or not.. lack of sleep with a new baby, a rough week, a body that's tired. The course just makes that visible. How you respond to a rig you can't grip, or a wall you can't get over, is the same muscle you use to respond to everything else life throws your way.

One more thing to watch this year. We're switching from 10-year age brackets to 5-year brackets. Somewhere out there, a 39 year old just breathed a sigh of relief that they won't be competing against 30 year olds anymore. Jon, on the other hand, was already winning with the bigger age gap, so it's probably not a big deal for him.

Traveling for races is tough. Traveling with infants and toddlers is challenging. Mix in international travel and.. “we’re having so much fun!!” Jon and I expected this trip to be difficult and it met that expectation. There were also memorable moments, learning experiences and sweet memories.
..
Race-wise, Jon showed up and competed! Placing 10th in the short course, 14th in the standard course and 2nd in the team relay alongside @edgie88 and Vivien for his age group was pretty incredible. @jonny_bells - your determination and grit is something to admire. I’m so proud of you and the example you set for our boys.
..
Speaking of those boys, all things considered, they did great! Kye morphed into a chill, go-with-the-flow baby overnight. Besides one major (and understandable) car meltdown, he was such a happy, smiley boy. Even his countless blowouts did not keep him down 🥴❤️ We definitely pushed Cole to his limits by cutting naps short and going to bed late. By the end of the trip, he showed us why we don’t do that normally, but it was so fun to see Ireland and ordinary things through his curious, kind and playful eyes.
..
The race schedule was a more unpredictable than we hoped and toddler schedules limited our flexibility, but the weather was BEAUTIFUL. Some highlights include the Cliffs of Moher, Dublin Big Bus and Guinness storehouse. We also enjoyed walking to cafes, drinking in pubs, playing in parks, eating fish and chips and seeing horses work as “Irish lawnmowers”.
..
We are lucky to have like-minded, traveling friends in @edgie88 and Kelly. We wouldn’t want this adventure with any other beer-loving, backwash-hating duo 😂❤️ Watching Rowan and Cole’s friendship blossom was also a huge joy. Shoutout to the Meyers family, @erinm1025 for always offering to hold a baby or entertain a couple toddlers. We may hold off on European travel for a minute, but maybe a Canada 2027 😉
..
A fitting end to our trip occurred on final descent into Chicago when Kye blew out and Cole puked all over. With that, we are happy to be home; where the streets are wider and there are shoulders instead of shrub-covered brick walls on every curve. by @jonny_bells

A little photo dump from the @ocrwc2026ireland a couple of weeks ago. Although the US brought the numbers it’s still always amazing to see how many other countries there are that participate in obstacle racing. Also the camaraderie from everyone is unmatched, doesn’t matter where you’re from everyone is very friendly and positive. Overall it was a fun event, I would definitely do it again but probably only if it were in the states.

Jon Coluzzi should be remembered as one of the most important men’s racers in the Midwest’s OCR scene—if not the most important. His consistency on podiums throughout the years is almost unmatched, but nothing defines his career more than what he has accomplished in Frontline Special Forces.

He has never lost his vest. The course has never beaten him. In 2023, it could only hope to contain him by taking out his knee on a freak accident. His response? He busted his ass and made an incredible comeback returning in 2024 and finishing second.

The man already known as “Jonny Bells” gave that name a fitting moment in 2021. On his way to an incredible first-place finish, Jon hit the bell on Kraken—the final obstacle—with so much force that he sent it flying nearly ten yards.

Jon’s value to Frontline and Illinois OCR community cannot be overstated. The podium finishes tell part of his story. His toughness, loyalty, and impact on everyone around him tell the rest.

And while many great athletes have graced Frontline OCR’s podiums and starting corrals or had multiple years of successful vest retention, Jon has never left. If you are lining up at a Special Forces start line, Jon is lining up next to you as he will be once again in 2027.

And if you listen closely, you can still hear the ringing of those countless bells at the end of all the Vest Collectors, Mooring Lines and Krakens that could not stop him.

A true Frontline legend and foundational athlete of the Illinois OCR Scene, Jon is a first ballot OCR Athlete of the Midwest Hall of Famer, if there ever is such a thing.

Jon Coluzzi.

Probably gonna be the last tough day of rigs before the championships in Ireland next week and @edgie88 was nice enough to join me. Haven’t experienced any of the obstacles from a @worldobstacle event so it should be interesting. Can’t wait though, definitely excited 🙌🏼.

Compliments to @racereadyobstacles for all the tough grips on this one 💪🏼.

Completed my second @deka.fit in Chicago this past weekend. So close to a podium just 7 seconds off from 3rd so not coming home with a flag but I’m still happy with how I performed. Overall I thought it was a well ran race, my only complaint is I wish they sent all the age group blocks off at the same time, would’ve been easier to gauge how much more I would’ve needed to push it during the race, but other than that everything seemed like it went pretty smooth. Wish they had more of these in the Midwest 😊.

Haven’t been posting much, that new lil guy takes up a lot of time. Still training though, with @worldobstacle in Ireland coming up in less than a month and @themidwestocr just around the corner, gotta start ramping things up 💪🏼. Hoping Ireland isn’t as humid as here because these were some really sweaty doubles 🥵😂.
