I’ve been acting Shakespeare for over 50 years, and I’ve learned a few things along the way that can help you find your confidence and your truth in the work.

I’m offering a couple of workshops on Shakespeare at The Studio NW on two Sunday afternoons in August, the 3rd and 17th.

The first is for anyone who wants to learn (or refresh) the basic tactics of wrangling this text; the second a longer, practical session where we will look in detail at whatever speeches you feel inspired to bring.

Get ready for the Unified Shakespeare & Classical Auditions with experienced actor and instructor Jonathan Cullen.

📒 Introduction to Working with Classical Text - Sunday, January 5th

This workshop will be an exploration of how to approach a monologue by Shakespeare or another contemporary classical playwright, looking at what clues the text itself offers for the actor, how to shape a piece and realize fully the power and passion and argument contained in the words you have chosen.

We will cover the nuts & bolts of iambic pentameter and prosody so that the formal structure becomes a help rather than a hindrance.

This workshop is open to all levels of experience, whether you’re new to acting Shakespeare or want to brush up on your classical technique.

🎭 Classical Monologue Audition Prep - Sunday, January 12th

In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to build on the skills you practiced in the Introduction to Working with Classical Text workshop. (Note: You do not need to have participated in that workshop to sign up for this one.)

Bring your chosen audition monologue(s) and get a chance to perform them with feedback from the instructor. Whether you’re just getting your piece on its feet or are looking to put on the finishing touches, this workshop will help you take the next steps toward being prepared for the upcoming Unified Shakespeare & Classical Auditions.

Well, that was exciting! On Monday night I was in the cast for the premiere and for-one-night-only performance of Fezziwig’s Fortune by the fabulous Josie Seid and Sara Jean Accuardi, produced by Anonymous Theater. I rehearsed alone, in secret, and only met the other cast members as they entered the stage. And I learned a dance in the interval. Live theatre - a bit too bloody live at times! - and what a blast to have done it. Have a cool Yule, chums #anonymoustheatre #resercenterforthearts #fezziwig #livetheatre by @jonny_cullen
