Finally had chance to go through the shots I took at The Three Peaks fell race at the weekend.

At 10:30 am on Saturday 25th April, over a 1000 participants set off in blistering heat, all hoping to tame the 3 infamous summits of Pen Y Ghent, Whernside, and Inglebourough. 38.6km with 1600m of tough Yorkshire dales elevation.

The race has famously tight cut offs, and the heat was relentless, with few opportunities for water and shade. This race is competed by running every inch of runnable terrain, and surviving the many non runnable bits.

Seeing the runners summit Whernside via the famous farmers field climb (not either of the tourist paths), hunched over on all fours grabbing at grass and tussock to try and prevent tumbling backwards down a near vertical wall is something everyone needs to see to understand this beautiful sport properly.

Volunteers and Marshalls, as ever, were out in force with a smile, a word of support, and then a stern voice to tell you not to fanny around too long and miss a cut off.

@tomevansultra got the fastest time round on the day, in an unthinkable (for most of us) time of 03:02:17 , but many many 100s more runners earned every single footstep, war story, post race pint, and tired Sunday legs.

What a sport to shoot.

Love is the thing.

Pennine Party People united, and saved each of us many many times. Yearly reminder to be vulnerable and let people in.

Pennine Rally 2024 is done. Please donate to our @calmzone fund if you can. Last year before I did the rally I was in a very dark place and not everyone is lucky enough to be able to play bikes in the Pennines to snap themselves out of it. Link in bio.

In what has now become an annual tradition, @j.o.edwards from @track_one_foot_forward messages us to say “up for doing a group trail run” and we (Pathfinder) say “Yes” before he’s even finished typing.

It, in our experience, can be hard to merge two well established groups of runners into one cohesive group…but it’s easy with the Track crew, it just flows and the soundness of people shines through.

I (Chris) feel incredibly proud of this valley, and always want to show off the diverse network of trails and terrain we have here, and also make it worth the while for people to come visit and run with us. So I get quite anxious as the date gets closer…but I knew this route was going to make both groups smile from ear to ear.

190bpm climbs from the gate, exposed windy sheep’s trods, Neolithic stone and trigs, slidey descents of pure joy, Lumb falls and house of muck, Grouse tracks and open farmland, Alpine hugs and free sausage rolls, Heptonstall Hell, Foraged Porcini (tbc), and a trial that drops you off straight into the garden of a craft ale pub as the sun finally breaks through.

Happy to be running again. Happy to know this valley well enough to entertain our guests.

For a little bit bikes is what I did, from about 2013 to 2021 I didn’t really run, I just rode bikes…Road bikes, cross bike, mountain bikes, commuter bikes. Every holiday a bike holiday.

Then after riding the Pennine Rally for the second time (RIP) with Laus, and having the funnest week on a bike ever…I didn’t get back on two wheels for nearly a year. A weeks rest turned into cobwebs on a spendy groupset.

Recently though, injury has ‘forced’ me to reintroduce cycling to stop myself from going insane and being a nightmare to live with.

I’ve maybe not completely fallen in love with it again (yet), but recently I’ve had (crucially) moments with myself on the bike where I’ve thought “I’m really happy right now”. I’m opening up Komoot and planning adventures…. Hey Laus do you know we could get the train to X and ride to Z, camping at Y?

That said, dicking about on the moors and woods is undefeated on a bike, mobbing a descent as part of a group?…elite. by @jonnydiscoballs

Went for a walk, and a talk, with my mate Jeff aka @mrbowlegs

Jeff, aside from being an incredibly kind and interesting human, has been the creative brains behind the scenes of some of your favourite outdoors brands, and the waaaay ahead of its time ‘The Outsiders’ book.

Like many of us who’ve spent time building brands for other people, or started our own things, he understands the crossroads we sometimes find ourselves at.

The mental hesitation of continuing on the safe path that actually starts to seem like it might be taking you away from your intended destination.

He’s also developed the tools and experience to help you reorient your path, and make better more sustainable life and career choices. Choices that get you back on track.

I planned. I walked. I painted. I wrote. I made snacks for friends I love. I talked about the important stuff. I talked about bullshit. I tickled dogs. I problem solved. I helped. I booped my friends daughters nose. I paddled. I brewed up. I trusted. I ate. I took photos.

I know who I am, and what being myself feels like.

A mid week weekend with some special humans, grounding myself in Chris, because I forgot for a couple of weeks.
