—𝑌𝑜𝑢'𝑟𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑎 𝑟𝑜𝑠𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑦𝑎𝑟𝑑. 𝐼 𝑤𝑜𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑜 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑟.

Alchemised tells layered stories during the war among alchemists. Each faction enforces its belief that is holy and true. They choose how they want to be remembered in history.

Alchemised gave us a glimpse of the complexity of decision-making in the midst of war. The urgency had to be considered and the difficult choice had to be made. There was no clear line between black and white. They were all morally grey. The "holy" idealism that motivated some to win the war was getting vague,

"𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑦 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑤𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑟?"

The love story was tragic yet compelling. Very angst. Part One left me wondering about Kaine Ferron's attitude towards Helena Marino. Well, in Part Two, it finally made sense. If you read Part One for the second time, you will get completely different feeling.
Kaine's childhood was brutal. I hated his dad throughout the book, but his one last sentence changed everything.
Luc's sense of duty consumes him; he carries the burden to win the war like Orion (While the truth was...). I was sorry for him.

Sometimes I felt exhausted given its heavy and dark fantasy theme, but Alchemised did not stop me to keep going. Every sentence was mantra. I was spellbound.
Fyi, I did not read the ff. It might be rooted somewhere, but after a while, it did not matter anymore.

One thing I regret the most was info dumping. It took me a while to finally get into the story. The glossary made by fans was very helpful. Thank you by the way...Wish SenLinYu had provided a glossary inside.

Overall, despite bringing out heavy, dark, and layered stories during an alchemist war, Alchemised was such a page turner.

The Poet Empress by Shen Tao
—Most scowled at her. The girls of the Inner Court wanted her dead, while the lunatic crown prince tortured her and forbade her from leaving the palace walls. She was trapped, suffocating.

Yet, she was able to navigate her path among the beasts-the power usurpers. Though she couldn't read and write at first, she proved sharper than ordinary peasant. She stayed alert, in this game, a single misstep was a death sentence.

"I had just 'announced' to an audience of thousands that I was a real player in the grand game of the palace.

To overthrow the crown prince, she had to hasten to uncover his past-a past that repulsed her (also me as a reader) to the core, and finish her poem. It was heartbreaking to finally 'witness' his past.

However, the dynasty sat in peril, she had to take him down, or let the dynasty rot. Suddenly, she was in doubt... "Should I Iet him live?" "The monster could become gentle again."

I thought she was going to change her mind, but the plot twist left me awed. No spoilers, though! Do not let the obvious displays distract you from the shadow of the underdog.

Review:
Even though this book has no romance, I dont regret picking it up. Fast paced (very) and definifely a page turner. Yet, things I wish the author had shown us more was the dialogue between Wei and Terren after she gained his trust-rather than through the narrator. Also, I wish there was a map. Overall, it is a great debut and incredibly action-packed.

Please take note of some TWs...

Why does reading a prequel feel so heartbreaking? We know the ending and the trauma he had to endure. That successful rebellion didn't happen until 25 years later and led to the loss of his lover and family.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒉𝒆𝒑𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒅 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒅𝒖𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚 𝒃𝒚 𝑹𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒍 𝑮𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒈

⚔️Slow–burn romance with snarky and witty conversation
⚔️Unique magic system
⚔️Enthralling world building with gothic vibe

❤️Elspeth X Ravyn was full of wary, calm and alluring
❤️lone x Elm was an open book and exploding

• 𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒘
— Elspeth Spindle has been living in secret with a monster inside her head. Ravyn Yew, a destrier (also known as the King's nephew and, unknown to many, as a highwayman) who bore a similar past to EIspeth Spindle. They shared the same goal to quell the mist and the fever, which drew them to each other

• 𝑻𝒘𝒐 𝑻𝒘𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑪𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒏𝒔
—The quest continued with the main focus changed to lone, Elspeth's cousin, and Prince Renelm, a broken prince, he claimed.
I got to read another banter with (another) snarky and witty conversation between Elm and lone, and a few glimpses of Elspeth's consciousness. Despite little appearance of Ravyn and Elspeth, this was a good direction for the second book and somewhat necessary to enable the plot to move forward, yet it was bittersweet.

The magic system and secrets unfold one at a time, keeping me on the edge of my seat, definitely a page turner. The lyrical prose was so *chef's kiss 🫶.
It was undoubtedly a great debut.

𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐛𝐲 𝐄𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐇𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐲
Eager for unconditional love to fill the gap left by her dad's absence, she tried to make others stay by making them happy. She did it and lost herself along the way instead.
Also, having a fear of abandonment, she was reluctant to have deep conversations with someone after her breakup. Why bother talking if she/he was just passing through your life? Along with her friend—Ashleigh—and Miles, Daphne found freedom and her true self.

While Miles' mom used to blame him, his childhood was miserable. Thus, he strove to not let others down. He did not want to show his bad sides. Yet he was a witty, easygoing kind of boyfriend and able to push Daphne, finding her worthy, and likewise, Daphne helped Miles open up.

Ovefall, this is a funny and heartwarming love story of finding yourself and each other.

𝑪𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒍 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒃𝒚 𝑲𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏 𝑪𝒊𝒄𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊

"If this was weakness, he wanted to be weak. If this was sin, let him be damned to hell."

—Rune and Gideon strove to survive through the unstable regimes-witches and New Republic-while carried out revenge mission. During the fake courting he gave a piece of himself, and so did she. Then the line was blurred, they were trapped in their own game.

It was sweet and cunning, had convenient plot, nice and very enjoyable. The tension was yummy, nicely done for young adult. But still spicy enough to make you squeal inside. The book did what I expected to be tho.
