So many exist for most of the time in worlds which are humanly arranged, themed and controlled. We forget that there are environments which do not respond to the flick of a switch or to the touch of a screen, and which have their own rhythms and orders of existence. Mountains correct this amnesia. By speaking of greater forces than we can possibly invoke, and by confronting us with greater spans of time than we can possibly envisage, mountains refute our excessive trust in the man-made. They pose profound questions about our durability and true strength. If I could only convince some of you to give it a try!

Adulting is weird. Turns out happiness is still asking your friends if they can come play outside. Lena’s mom said yes! Breonna skipped school (she’s a teacher), and I got in trouble with my boys for missing ONE game!

Tam and Mike grilled us some delicious steaks for dinner back at their campsite after this. 🩵

Great friends, a warm soak, happy bellies, and an ethereal afterglow from heaven whispering a gentle goodnight to us. The little things really are the big things.

✨Mt. Starr✨
We climbed up to the ridge from Mono Pass and scrambled over the right to the summit. It was a tedious slog with ankle deep rocks. We ascended away from the south side and chose the nasty sandy scree and talus route before the scramble. We thought it would be easier. But hey, the views from the top were amazing. We descended almost straight down the west face again and sand surfed all the way down after the boulders. Any day, any summit is a great one out here in Mammoth!

I thought everything was going well… right up until I suggested climbing Thompson and he completely lost his marbles after finding out there was no BBQ spots in the backcountry.

He threatened to toss me in the lake if I didn’t call the chopper so he could get his ice cream sooner.

A concerned stranger even took a picture of me trying to break free and run away.
And the icing on the cake? He wanted to stop at an abandoned house in the middle of the Mojave Desert on our way back.

I’m lucky to be alive.

Ladies, besides all that… he’s actually a gentleman who’s single and excited to mingle. I vouch for him. Just don’t deny him ice cream!

Matt shut me down real quick when I suggested a 13er by some lakes. Apparently, hiking back in the dark was a hard no for him. He does have a great sense of direction but needs a ton of exposure therapy in many areas! I wasn’t about to leave the Sierra without bagging at least one peak!

Wonoga Peak ended up being the perfect choice for us. With the limited time we had—a shorter, completely off-trail scramble with just enough spice to keep it interesting was it. Boulder hopping, loose scree, and some quality bushwhacking through snowbrush, mountain mahogany, and mountain white thorn was enough to have my legs bleeding and all cut up by the time we got back to the vehicle but even that brought a huge smile to my face.

The stellar clear view of Olancha, Muah, Trail, Cirque, Langley, Whitney, Russell, Tyndall, Williamson and Owens Valley was a treat. Gorgeous southern Sierra real estate!

Hidden beneath our feet lies a world that reminds us how beauty is truly made. Sometimes it’s better to keep things in the darkness. Every cave tells a story millions of years in the making, patiently sculpted one drop at a time.

A stalactite begins with a single drop. Alone, it seems insignificant. Yet over time, those tiny, consistent moments create something breathtaking.

Nature reminds us that lasting beauty isn’t rushed. It’s formed through patience, resilience, and quiet persistence. Some of life’s greatest masterpieces aren’t built overnight. They’re created one small step at a time.

The easiest 16 miles and 5400ft elevation gain I’ve ever done due to the mountain range beauty. I am ready to go back to bag two more in that range. I want to see what it looks like in the fall. 🍁🍂
