AKY Astro Live Telescope Event is back!

Along with @highlandsdozeum, we will have three large telescopes, as well as three additional telescopes from Boyd County Public Library! We will be viewing the Moon and Saturn (weather permitting) while discussing astronomy and teaching you how to take photos through the telescopes using your phone!

When: Next Friday, October 23rd, 8:30pm

Where: Top floor of the parking garage near Broadway Square

Our event will wrap up Winchester Nights, which is a night of live music and more happening downtown 6pm - 9pm. Check out some great live music, grab some food, see the bug from King’s Daughters Health Foundation, and then join us on the top floor for some astronomy 🪐 🌙

Our family supports Rocky Adkins to be the next Governor of Kentucky because he cares about the issues that truly affect the lives of folks in Eastern Kentucky. Jobs, healthcare, and public education are important to us and we know they are important to him. Rocky is the candidate who will govern with common sense and not engage in the political games that plague our state and country.

Winchester Nights was a huge hit! This is exactly the type of event we had in mind years ago when we dreamed about what our downtown could be. People walking, music everywhere, restaurants packed, and a beautiful backdrop that just feels like a nice place to spend the evening.

A few days ago, a fantastic human being named Gary Smith contacted us through the Ashland Area Astronomy and Astrophotography page as he was looking for a good home for his wonderful telescope. I asked if it can possibly go to Highlands DOzeum for display, use in our community events, and for museum visitors to have free use of a fantastic telescope. Mr. Smith thought that was a great idea.

We will be doing a few adjustments to get it ready, but please keep an eye on the museums page for event announcements coming very soon! We are tentatively planning a Moon viewing for August, September, and a larger event to view Saturn in October!

Art 4 Aid 2026. Over $16,000 raised for our neighbors here in Boyd County and Ashland. One of our favorite days of the year. Welcome back to downtown, @oakviewcomets ! For the third year, I had the honor of being tour guide for a great group of first graders. We talked about the history of Ashland, as well as all the great ways citizen volunteers have made our city better in recent years. As always, they loved seeing the murals in art alley.

Art 4 Aid is back! Join us on June 6th at the Boyd County Convention for the third year as many incredible artists come together to benefit United Way of Northeast Kentucky and Hillcrest-Bruce Mission! Last year, over $18,000 was raised that went directly to folks in the Ashland area. Art 4 Aid was founded by Garrett Carroll from Midnite Society Tattoo who has shown that art can change lives.

This year, the event is growing in a big way! Tons of vendors, food trucks, music, and, of course, some of the best tattoo artists in our area and beyond. Cesiah and I once again have the honor of hosting this amazing event and hope you will join us!

Congratulations to The United States of America on Cesiah Bernal-Blanton becoming an AMERICAN CITIZEN!

Today is the culmination of years of work and dedication for Cesi. She has been an advocate for so many in both her personal and professional life and this process was difficult for our family. Especially given how public we are. But this story is hers to tell. We are fortunate people and we celebrate today while also remembering so many who are trying to do the same, but are not nearly as fortunate as we are.

Hearing her stand up and say, “I am Cesiah Bernal Blanton, I am from Mexico and I live in Ashland, Kentucky” was one of the proudest moments of my life.
