Sunday GALA 2025… the best one so far! 🥹🫶Mini essay incoming… 4th Sunday at Gala and honestly it’s started to feel like a yearly trip to church. 4 years of some combination of Antal, Hunee and/ or Palms Trax and they just get better each time. So much love and support at this one, particularly from my heroes and biggest inspirations @antalheitlager & @hunchmusic - and this was defo my favourite ever set by them. They really were on fire 🔥I first learnt about this music in Portugal through a fellow tennis coach @caldo_verde - who also showed me these amazing DJs. From them I learnt how to put it together. For these things I’ll always be grateful ❤️ 7 years later here I am chatting with them, listening to them play edits and digs I’ve sent, and even working with Antal on the distribution side for my label @vishmattre from @dardisku_records & my good friend @chebmimo_ also deserve shoutouts for their constant support, kind words and inspiring DJ sets 🔥This music game is sometimes very hard and can feel too much like a competition. But days like this are what it’s all about!Big thank you to the people that recognised me and said hi! Happy to be the internet’s “zouk guy” as a couple of you put it (my taste is broader but it’s fine lol)… those kind words really keep me going. To the guy who said I’m a genius I will try very hard not to let that ego rocket fuel go straight to my head 😂 the genius is the ppl who made the music… I’m just a nerd for it lol 🤓I took way too many videos hope you enjoy - here are my ones 1. Feeling very grateful watching these back… massive thank you to @folamour_fhuo for the belief, support and trust to warm up for this amazing crowd @letrabendo 🙏The clips pretty much work backwards from the end of the set… the final moments were particularly special as I closed with a fresh new edit from Raoul Denis JrI was a bit nervous as the track I edited “mizikasion” is quite deep… however it was clear the emotion wasn’t lost on the crowd and the vibes were immaculate ❤️There was zouk, soca, latin house, a selection of some of my favourite picks from across the African continent, and even some italo thrown in for good measure. Feel free to ask for IDs if there’s anything you like, always happy to share! Defo one of my favourite weekends in a while - thank you to the whole Folamour team for being amazing hosts, and to everyone who came down, danced and helped make it such a special one. So Yh this crazy thing happened… For quite some time @myanalogjournal has probably been my favorite YouTube channel. I often keep a MAJ tab open… shoutout to @poly_ritmo , @distantrhythm and @volta45_ to name a few of my favsTo be part of this wonderful channel showcasing a style of music so important to me with my favorite records is truly one of those dream come true eventsAmericans have shark week, last week was zouk week… it started off with a new edit (copyright overlords wouldn’t let me upload the Battery Crémil… luckily had a nice Vado Semedo in the bank)Then my zouk history post for @pufcollective - this MAJ mix is the final culmination of zouk week It’s been especially heart warming to see all the lovely comments from both friends and the sprawling MAJ audience ❤️To have people from Guadeloupe say they loved and are touched by the show means the world I tried to slowly build the energy with emotive, energetic zouk records… tracks that elicit a feeling of euphoria to reflect the courageous nature of the genre (especially with the horns/trumpets)What Zag has built is truly remarkable… and it’s an honour to be part of it. I urge anyone who hasn’t already to check out the show… and thank you so much to those that have! I only showcased a fraction of the beautiful Antillean music that’s out there - both the mix and my @discotheque_tropicale have a shared goal… to spotlight, advocate and promote the amazing soulful, sun filled music that can be found across the globe (with a special focus on Afro-Caribbean sounds) I’d be wrong not to shoutout my fellow DT crew members… @sunni.d__ @0marsultani @matty_s_vinyl I love you all and couldn’t do it without you xxIf anyone feels inspired to do their own research I’d urge them to chase that feeling… this music runs deep and on a final note I’d like to thank the many talented Antillean artists for their wonderful musical contributions over the years - especially those of Guadeloupe & Martinique in the late 70s to early 90s. Milan Pt 1 🇮🇹❤️Big thank you to @love.connection_djs for the invite to Milan a couple of weeks ago! Here’s a recap of the @annamolly2000 party we played at… had an absolute blast! Always fun to build the dancefloor from scratch and handing over to @pitayasoundsystem while playing our new release on vinyl for the first time was a great moment! It’s that time again! July 24 🏝️🕺⏰‼️🪩Hellooooo people! It’s a pleasure to announce our next party as we join forces with @heavenonhertz to takeover @bricks.london in Brixton in a few weeksWe have the honour of welcoming 3 of Italy’s finest selectors as we’re joined by Milan’s @love.connection_djs & London based, Rome-born @malur.mp3 These are all killer selectors and dear friends of ours and it’s a pleasure to welcome them to our Discothèque Tropicale @rickie_rognoni & @iosonomaio have been whipping up a storm across Italy with their signature sound that combines soulful, sun filled selections from African music to zouk to boogie to house music and beyond…If you haven’t seen @joshffb & @love.connection_djs recently released a 12 inch of edits together as the second release on the LC series! This release has picked up some serious support across Europe and copies have been flying off the shelf!So much so that’s it’s difficult to find one nowadays! Better late than never! Recap of our recent party @thejagodalston 🌴💃This was undoubtedly one of the best parties we’ve done in a while and it was really lovely to collaborate with good friend and fellow music nerds @liminal_people (@alfie.panaiotis + @falulu.fm & @funkelectric (@lauren_beavis + @brandon_purmessur) ❤️From rare boogie to cosmic disco to soulful house, Brazilian samba to a wide range of Afro-Caribbean grooves and oddities… the tunes were on point all night and despite 5 DJs sharing the decks… the b5b had a real flow to it 🫂🔥What an awesome space @thejagodalston is - the crowd were open to discovering new sounds and full of energy all night - with the floor still packed as @falulu.fm closed with a beautiful piece of soukous…Before for once the “one more song” chant worked and @joshffb closed the night off with an awesome Japanese reggae cover of “Born Slippy”Defo one for the books - we hope to all join forces and do it again one day 🙏Save the date for our next party on Sat 24/07 - we’re cooking up another amazing collab… TBA in the next couple days 🍻 by @joshffb
