We got there in the end! Hard to find the words to describe how we’re feeling… proud, excited, exhausted all spring to mind!

@0marsultani was busy @weoutherefest… but some of us (aka @joshffb & @matty_s_vinyl ) had work to do 😉

This 2 year project has been an amazing experience. We had so much to learn and it feels crazy to finally hold the records in our hands ❤️

There are a few people we need to thank! Firstly and most importantly… thank you Manix and his lovely family. Thank you for believing in us and trusting us to reintroduce your timeless music to new parts of the world and a fresh generation of zouk lovers.

Meeting you and talking about the zouk heyday was an unforgettable and magical experience. And we’re so grateful for your kindness, patience and support as we’ve worked to finish this project.

Thank you to @underradaar - without whom none of this would be possible. Arthur discovered the amazing titular track “Voyager”… and had the vision and technical skill to make the zouk masterpiece even more dancefloor friendly!

It’s mind blowing that some of our biggest inspirations and favourite DJs have supported this release. @antalheitlager was the first and his impact helping us distribute with @rushhourstore @rhd_rushhourdistribution is massively appreciated. @hunchmusic @palmstrax @barbara_boeing @dardisku_records @poly_ritmo @ajuma____ & the list goes on. It’s a blessing but not a surprise that so many of the worlds best DJs have connected with this incredible music. It’s been a pleasure to watch them zouk it up!

Thanks to @deepgroovesvinylpressingplant and @thecarverystudio for making the record sound incredible! Huge respect to @juliantapales for the amazing design 🎨

Finally thank you to all of you who’ve supported the project and made this dream possible! To all the DJs who’ve shared the wonderful energy of this music live with an audience… to the zouk lovers buying our record and enjoying it at home… to all the dancers moving to the music! THANK YOU 🙏

We’ve been shipping out pre-orders… still a few copies left drop us a dm for the limited edition pink ones… or there’s black copies from RH! Onto the next project…we have some ideas 🤓💃 taken in London, United Kingdom by @discotheque_tropicale

Been wanting to share this for a long time - and we’re proud to say we finally got the license over the line 🎉🙌

It took around a year and wasn’t easy - but we’re glad to say “Discotheque Tropicale 001 - Manix” is going ahead

We have full support from the artist and original label Sylart Records

We have mixing and mastering lined up… needless to say he’s a master of the game, probably THE BEST option we could find

We can’t give too much away but pressing and distribution will be handled by a team that we said going in, would be our dream partners 🤯

Artwork is to be handled by @juliantapales , also the very talented artist behind our lovely posters 🎨

The record will contain 5 tracks - 3 Manix originals and 2 edits by Dijon’s amazing @underradaar (one of which I’m sure you know)

It’s been incredible to work with Arthur from the start - in fact in large part it’s him you can thank for making this happen. Arthur dug out the record in a flea market, and found Mr Manix in the assistant referee logs of a non-French league football match!

He also setup a surprise meeting with the man himself last February. One of the biggest shocks @joshffb has ever seen was Manix popping up behind Arthur having been given no warning 😂

We had a friend’s restaurant to ourselves, drank rum, wine and picked Manix’s brain for stories about his days in Guadeloupe. What it was like to be part of the zouk scene and its evolution, other artists / friends he worked with, and the meaning behind his iconic tracks 🙏

We learn the titular Tanguy is about his first son, that voyager is in reference to his many years journeying around the Antilles, and were treated to a live rendition of songs on the album

Our first release will feature two amazing tracks from a second Manix record not yet online!

We will setup a pre order to gauge interest and inform the number of pressings. If you support this project please engage/like this post and we hope you can have the record in your hands soon ❤️

Thank you to all our friends & supporters. We hope to zouk together on the dancefloor soon - lots of cool things to come

07/08 Our last party of the summer! 🪩🌴

After our next event on Friday 24/07 with @heavenonhertz & @love.connection_djs - this marks our final party of this sunny summer 🔥

We’re excited to be bringing our discotheque tropicale to Hackney once again - this time it’s making our debut at the amazing @growhackney

All the boys from DT are joining for this one - including rare appearances from OG members @0marsultani & @matty_s_vinyl - who are now both proud fathers… the coolest zouk dads in town! As well as regulars @joshffb & @fred.salt.m8

We’ll be starting outdoors, where you can expect Balearic, tropical vibes canalside from 7-10…before we take things inside for a healthy dose of boogie, disco, house and everything in between

Now about our guest DJs for the night… all DT debutants we can’t wait to host them!

Sanoy @_sanoy

Sanoy is an Italian-Ethiopian DJ, musician, and artist whose musical journey began as a bass player before naturally evolving into DJing. His approach to music is deeply rooted in rhythm, groove, and cultural curiosity, shaping a distinctive sound that draws from across the global underground.

Arlyss / @alyssdiscs

Filipino-British DJ ARLYSS is a dedicated digger bringing unmistakable character and energy to her sets. She flows seamlessly across disco, proto-house, electro, and acid house, balancing uplifting melodies with darker, hypnotic rhythms.

With a deep respect for community, you’ll find her to be a familiar face at Tola, Peckham at her monthly residency and Salotto Sounds alongside radio appearances on Voices & Loose.FM. Her contagious energy, both behind and in-front of the decks, make her the kind of DJ you want to boogie with long after her set is done.

Atlas / @rossharvey52

Atlas is a reasonably new name in the London scene drawn to the spaces where world music and underground dance culture meet. His sets flow through Afro-boogie, disco, 90s house and beyond, taking particular inspiration from the sounds of South Africa and the Caribbean.

His sound has developed through years of curating and playing nights both while at university in Cardiff and now having found his home in London

It’s that time again! July 24 🏝️🕺⏰‼️🪩

Hellooooo people! It’s a pleasure to announce our next party as we join forces with @heavenonhertz to takeover @bricks.london in Brixton in a few weeks

We have the honour of welcoming 3 of Italy’s finest selectors as we’re joined by Milan’s @love.connection_djs & London based, Rome-born @malur.mp3

These are all killer selectors and dear friends of ours and it’s a pleasure to welcome them to our Discothèque Tropicale

@rickie_rognoni & @iosonomaio have been whipping up a storm across Italy with their signature sound that combines soulful, sun filled selections from African music to zouk to boogie to house music and beyond…

If you haven’t seen @joshffb & @love.connection_djs recently released a 12 inch of edits together as the second release on the LC series! This release has picked up some serious support across Europe and copies have been flying off the shelf!

So much so that’s it’s difficult to find one nowadays! Well if you’re in London and still searching for one… this is your chance as we’ve reserved the final 30 for this event - and another pop up we’re doing @_newforms_ the next day! When they’re gone they’re gone… so come on down have a boogie and grab one while you still can 🫶

More on both artists to come, but for now save the date and we hopeto see you on the dancefloor,

DT x HoH 🌴❤️

Better late than never! Recap of our recent party @thejagodalston 🌴💃

This was undoubtedly one of the best parties we’ve done in a while and it was really lovely to collaborate with good friend and fellow music nerds @liminal_people (@alfie.panaiotis + @falulu.fm & @funkelectric (@lauren_beavis + @brandon_purmessur) ❤️

From rare boogie to cosmic disco to soulful house, Brazilian samba to a wide range of Afro-Caribbean grooves and oddities… the tunes were on point all night and despite 5 DJs sharing the decks… the b5b had a real flow to it 🫂🔥

What an awesome space @thejagodalston is - the crowd were open to discovering new sounds and full of energy all night - with the floor still packed as @falulu.fm closed with a beautiful piece of soukous…Before for once the “one more song” chant worked and @joshffb closed the night off with an awesome Japanese reggae cover of “Born Slippy”

Defo one for the books - we hope to all join forces and do it again one day 🙏

Save the date for our next party on Sat 24/07 - we’re cooking up another amazing collab… TBA in the next couple days 🍻 taken in The Jago by @discotheque_tropicale

Artist Feature Post 2/2

To complete the lineup for tomorrow @nicos.hackneybridge we’re welcome more friends both old @nathancoless and new

1. @adacotton / DJ Aïe Que Calor!

We recently had the pleasure of meeting Ada at one of @spanielkopita recent @bodega_nights_ldn events, where we shared a very fun B2B covering many different genres from across the African continent. It’s a pleasure to hear her selection once again!

Ada is a London-based French-Rwandese
writer and director for Film and Visual Arts, based
in London and Dakar.

After an MA in Ethnomusicology, she worked as a
Documentary Filmmaker and as a Producer for several
award winning critically aclaimed independent narrative feature films. Her documentary ‘African Sewing Club’ was exhibited at the Pavilion Museum in Brighton, the BFI and BBC World Africa in 2016. Her body of work also includes a debut narrative short, ‘Progress (1968)’, and ‘Bubble Killer’, her debut short showcasing at the Southwark Playhouse in 2022 and the Blue Elephant Theatre in 2023

Her focus is on incorporating her passion for
traditional African music and other fusion genres
to tell visual narratives from the African diaspora
and on the continent. 🌍🇷🇼

2. @nathancoless

Longtime supporter of ours and friend of the label @nathancoless is back after playing at last year’s takeover. He’s a local legend and one hell of a record dealer… constantly searching the depths of eBay this guys knows how to hunt down a good deal. Once famously finding a blue note jazz collection worth 50 times what it was priced at.

Possibly Oliver N’Goma’s number 1 fan… Nathan is also a huge fellow zouk lover! Several years ago he came to dig through a box of zouk records @joshffb had brought back from Paris… over the years it’s been a pleasure to watch his love for the genre grow ❤️

Having graduated from Central Saint Martens, Nathan is also an acclaimed artistic director / fashion designer - you can check his unique and impressively creative work @nathancoles_

3. @joshffb

Never heard of him - sounds overrated… heard he’s got a lot of Caribbean and African records or something…let’s see if any of them are worth listening to 😉🌴 taken in Hackney Bridge by @discotheque_tropicale

Artist Feature Post 1/2

We’re super excited to be inviting 3 good friends and fellow tropical music heads to our @nicos.hackneybridge takeover this Friday 26 June 🌴🌞

1. Danny Bodega @spanielkopita

Standing alongside Vegemite and TimTams as some of Australia’s finest outputs… we can’t wait to welcome our good friend Danny Bodega to our discotheque tropicale

No stranger to a reissue as @gazebo__gazebo records head honcho - Danny has a history of embracing the weird and wonderful. Expect freaked out funk, slinky ragga chug, and balearic bangers in all their forms to keep you buzzing… and as much as he’s shy to admit it, this boy can zouk!

2. @borisoumow / @boboxa_london

Another head honcho of Parisian and London based crew @boboxa_london - which blends a love for vinyl with a commitment to meaningful causes

For the past 7 years, they have been organising music events and DJing across the globe with all proceeds and fees going to various charities, raising over £20,000 to date 👏

Passionate about rare and global sounds, Boris’ selection is sure to encompass a musical journey that connects a variety of global cultures through rhythm and melody

Each summer Boboxa also curate Solis Arcadia, a small independent festival held in a castle in the French countryside, celebrating music, community, and shared values…. Where he & @spanielkopita have made it a tradition to play an incredible b2b each year

3. @_starvin.arvin

Starvin’Arvin has been digging and spinning rare records for over a decade. His deep love for Brazilian music - sparked during a few formative months spent in Brazil - runs through his sets like a heartbeat, layered with rich percussion, joyful grooves, and unexpected gems.

But Arvin’s selections go way beyond Latin rhythms: from UK street soul to Italian disco, French oddities to US boogie bombs - if it grooves, it goes. Known for his cheeky energy, seamless mixing, and playful spirit both behind and in front of the decks, he brings a contagious vibe wherever he plays.

He’s been a supporter of Discotheque Tropicale since right at the beginning so it’s a pleasure to hear his selections as few ppl understand our party better! taken in Hackney Bridge by @discotheque_tropicale
