Here’s my obligatory high note post dedicated to the trumpet internet for this quarter 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ I love playing in @drjaviernero Jazz Orchestra. The music is soulful, excellently arranged, constantly challenges me as a trumpet player and the band is always stacked with great players. Looking forward to being back at Dizzy’s soon! #leadtrumpet #jazztrumpet #jazzorchestra #scaryleadlines #trumpethighnotes by @joshtpt

Still riding high from an incredible show by @lizzobeeating 🎤🎵 also, blown away by her performance with @sashabefluting on “Carnival of Venice.” I was honestly floored, RESPECT! 🤣 lookin’ forward to a great rest of the summer at @wolf_trap with @wyntonmarsalis @jonbatiste and @joshgroban

Ok, here’s one more from the amazing U.S. Army Blues, and my one “get off my lawn” post for a while 🤣🤣 I am SO tired of seeing IG filled with players hacking high notes that are out of tune, bad attacks, tones like stepping on a cat’s tail, missing all the notes leading to the big finish….. and it’s like “killer right?!?” NO!!! If you’re going to embellish or create some fireworks on the band stand, keep it clean, in tune, accurate and with a good sound! Ok, rant over (does this make me old now?) 😅😅🎺#trumpet #leadtrumpet #bigband #trumpetlife #jazztrumpet by @joshtpt

Hey, cats! I’m still here doin’ my thing, just a bit busier with two littles now 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 absolutely love swingin’ away with one of the best big bands on Earth with my friends in The @usarmyband Blues 🔥🎺 no one sets me up in a pocket like @drums.on.tap 🥁

Taken from inside my derby mute 🎩🎥 a bit of Artie Shaw’s “Softly as in the Morning Sunrise,” a bit different than the version I recorded with Javier Nero and Veronica Swift 😆🤷🏻‍♂️ nevertheless, I LOVE swing music and the emphasis there is on ensemble playing and the intricacies in style and inflection. I also took my @yamahamusicusa 8330EM out for a spit, this horn has a nice growl in the sound 🔥🎺

A bit of the trumpet soli from Ernie Wilkins’ chart “Jazz Connoisseur” that he wrote for Harry James. This is from a gig earlier this week with @seannelsonjazzorchestra who sounded absolutely fabulous bringing some of these deep dives back to life 🔥🔥

Masterclass with @joshtpt! 🎺

The @iujazzstudies and @iutrumpetstudios got the chance to do a virtual masterclass with the incredible Josh Kauffman this last Monday. There was so much to take away…as he said, “The trumpet is easy. We’re the ones who make it difficult!”

Thank you, Josh, for being so generous and clear with everything you shared!
